Inside Mad Men: Season 6, Episode 7, “Man With a Plan”

Ok, the season is definitely ramping up. We had Sterling Cooper Draper Price merging with Cutler Gleason and Chaough in the SCDP offices. Still no new name of the merged agency. Don tries to control an angry Sylvia who threw Arnold out of their apartment only to find that she wants to end the whole thing. Don tries to throw his weight around at Ted, Peggy sees through him, and the tables are then turned.

Pete Campbell’s mother pays a visit while Pete sees the new agency moving forward without him. Roger Sterling fires Burt Peterson again. Joan has a painful cyst on her ovary, but Bob Benson manages to help her. Joan repays the favor. And Don returns to Megan, but he tunes her out. And as the episode ends, Bobby Kennedy is shot and killed.

Inside Mad Men: Season 6, Episode 6, “For Immediate Release”

This was a rather explosive episode for the slow-moving Season 6. Don blows up Jaguar. That pisses off Joan. Megan finds a way back into Don’s pants (this is the nicest way I could put it). Roger uses an airline hostess to drum up new business for Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. SCDP attempts to go public. Pete Campbell then blows the secret. And while celebrating, he sees his father-in-law in a house of ill repute and blows a big account. Literally. And then he blows his marriage and goes down swinging.

While all that is happening, all hell breaks lose. There’s an agency merger between SCPD and Cutler Gleason Chaough to get the Chevrolet account and Peggy is back working with Don. And I’m stunned. Easily the best episode of the season. For the first five episodes, the season was moving slowly, then in the last 30 minutes of tonight’s episode, BOOM! New agency.

Meagan Draper wins an award for her past work at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. Roger Sterling courts a new client. Pete Campbell hopes to make up with Trudy. Don Draper admits he can’t love and doesn’t want to deal with loss. And New York City burns.

Inside Mad Men — Season 6, Episode 3, “The Collaborators”

Well, this was quite the episode. Don continues his affair with Sylvia. Megan admits she had a miscarriage. Pete gets thrown out of his house by Trudy after she finds out he had a liaison with a neighbor (good for you, Trudy!). Peggy finds out Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce had trouble with a client. We get flashbacks of Don as a boy (Dick Whitman) living in a whorehouse. And Don helps to shoot down Herb the Jaguar scuzbucket who bedded Joan.

Let’s take a look at what Matt Weiner, Jon Hamm and Jessica Paré have to say about tonight’s episode. Interesting perspective from Matt Weiner. He never ceases to amaze.

We move to costume designer Janie Bryant who tells us about the “Peacock Era” in men’s fashion during the 1960′s. I’m glad I missed this. Rich Sommer (“Harry Crane”) gives us his reaction to the era.

Inside Mad Men — Season 6, Episodes 1 & 2, “The Doorway”

The premiere of Mad Men was a bit dark. As we transition into 1968, we learn that death was a theme throughout tonight’s episodes, but that’s Matthew Weiner giving us a message about what’s coming. Roger Sterling’s mother died. Don is again wondering exactly who he is. Megan is gaining fame as an actress. Meanwhile Betty Francis is also searching for herself and is a bit more grown up while Sally is mouthing off to everyone. Peggy Olson at her firm is being the female Don Draper, but irons out a crisis in her own way.

A Look at Mad Men Season 6 and A Look Back at Where Season 5 Left Off

Mad Men is about to return for a 6th season. The series about Sterling-Cooper from the early 1960′s has transitioned to Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce into the late 1960′s. When the show premieres on April 7, the ad agency will be dealing with the Vietnam War, the Sexual Revolution and a changing world.

It also means more wardrobe for Dan Draper and the entire cast. Here’s a preview of what we’ll see when Season 6 kicks off in a mere few weeks.

Inside Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 13

I know this is a week late, but with my family commitments from last Sunday and being busy until now, I wasn’t able to see the Season 5 finale until tonight.

Lots of things going on: Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce & Harris now dealing with Lane’s death although he’s not mentioned. Don has some pain, both physical and mental. Pete has Beth come back into his life, then gets knocked the eff out again. Megan is hurting over the rejection by Don of having her audition for an agency spot. Roger meets Megan’s mom and tries to equal his LSD high from earlier in the season. Peggy is back and she meets Don at a movie theater to tell him that she’s moving on up in her agency. And SCDPH is moving into bigger space thanks to more money coming into the company.

Of course, Matt Weiner has to end the season with dogs humping and showing John Slattery’s naked ass. Typical Matt.

And that concludes Season 5 of Mad Men. We have to wait for another year for Season 6. Gah. But if you need your Mad Men fix, the episodes air Sunday mornings at 6 East/5 Central on AMC. Of course, you can find the previous four seasons on Netflix and the entire Season 5 is on iTunes. I think I’m done with the plugs. Now if AMC could provide screeners. Oh that’s right, Matt Weiner is not in favor of providing screeners due to critics spoiling the episodes. Oh well.

Inside Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 12 — “Commissions and Fees”

Interesting episode as we ramp up to the season finale next week.

Don finds out about Lane’s embezzlement and forces him to resign. In disgrace, Lane commits suicide. Roger gets Don a meeting with Dow Chemical. Sally refuses to go with Betty on a ski trip and stays with Don and Megan. She also goes on a date with Glen. And Sally has her first period and runs home to Betty. Don allows Glen to drive back to school.

And let’s relive the scene where Don and Roger, returning to Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce find out that Lane has hung himself.

Just two more episodes left after tonight.

Tonight’s episode entailed Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce receiving an indecent proposal from one of Jaguar’s dealers asking to have a night with Joan. And it also affirmed Pete Campbell as one of the slimiest characters in the history of television. And while SCDP was auditioning for Jaguar, Megan was auditioning for a Broadway play. Peggy had money thrown in her face by Don, she went to talk to another agency and accepted their offer.

This was a pretty wild episode. This depicts a period in 1967 with the Hare Krishnas.

We see Lane cooking the books at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, embezzling money and forging Don Draper’s signature. Then we see the return of Paul Kinsey, but he’s now in the Hare Krishnas. Joan is served divorce papers. Don takes a shot at Megan for leaving the firm. Don and Joan test drive a Jaguar. And Don rallies the company during the Christmas party.

In this look inside tonight’s episode, Jared Harris, Jessica Paré, Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks discuss what transpired.

From the episode, we have this scene of Harry Crane being visited by the woman Paul Kinsey’s in love with for all the wrong reasons.

In this episode, Betty Francis is back and while she’s dealing with her weight problems, she sees Megan inside her apartment and gets jealous on how she looks and her relationship with the Draper children. And she forces Don to reveal some his past to Sally.

In the meantime, Roger is paying everyone from Ginsberg to his estranged second wife Jane. And Don feels threatened by Ginsberg to screw him over.

Tonight was an episode about secrets and trying to keep them. Megan’s leaving early has Peggy covering for her when Don calls. Pete ends up having an affair with his fellow train commuter’s wife and he finds a way to see her after she tries to call it off. Then Megan decides to come clean to Don about wanting to act while Joan remains skeptical about his marriages. Very interesting episode.

Let’s look at the episode. We first have Matt Weiner, Jessica Paré, Vincent Kartheiser and Jon Hamm talking about what happened tonight.

And let’s go inside a key scene at the Cool Whip test kitchen where Don and Peggy try to act out a key scene for the product, but then argue about Megan’s decision to pursue her acting dream and leave Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.

That was a great scene. And Angry Peggy is awesome. Now we have what’s in the next Mad Men episode.

Inside Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 7: “At the Codfish Ball”

I just finished watching this episode and I had to rewind several scenes on the DVR to make sure I saw and/or heard exactly what I had seen or heard. First, Roger Sterling needs his own show when Mad Men finishes its run. His lines tonight were the funniest I’ve heard in a long time. Second, what the hell was that with Roger Sterling at the end? And third, seeing five unhappy and stunned people in one of the closing scenes with Megan’s parents, Don, Megan and Sally Draper was a great touch. Oh yes, Glenn the Creepy Kid returned.

And the interesting sideplot of Peggy and Abe and the reaction to their announcement of living together was very good.

This has been quite the strong season for Mad Men. And yes, we’re now in the second half of the season if you can believe that.

Inside Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 6: Far Away Places

What a wild episode this was. We get an episode told from three different perspectives all surrounding the same timeframe. First, we see Peggy leading a presentation without Don for the first time and it goes horribly wrong. Then, Roger and his trophy wife, Jane go to a party to take LSD and that for all intents and purposes ends their marriage. Finally, Don pulls Megan out of the presentation and they go to a Howard Johnson’s hotel and restaurant only to find that goes horribly wrong.

It all ends with Bert Cooper giving Don a much needed wake up call. I loved this episode. Tremendous stuff.

In this scene, Don returns from Howard Johnson’s in upstate New York to find Megan back and their confrontation turns violent. Don tells Megan that he feared that he lost her.

Inside Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 5, “Signal 30″

Tonight was one of the best Mad Men episodes ever. Lane Pryce tries to drum up some new business for Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce, but needs Don, Pete and Roger to help bail him out. Pete entertains Don at an exclusive dinner party at his house. Pete also creeps us out while attending a driver’s education class by hitting on a high school girl and we find that Pete is only happy to cheat on his lovely wife Trudy (Alison Brie) and Pete and Lane engage in fisticuffs where Pete Campbell gets knocked the fuck out. Pete gets his second bloody nose of the season.

In our video recap, we have Matthew Wiener, Vincent Kartheiser, Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss and Jared Harris discussing how this episode affects the dynamic of the characters. This was as close to a Lost-style Pete Campbell-centric episode on Mad Men. Very interesting stuff tonight and so much information that it could fill 7 episodes.

In this clip, we see what gets Pete to cheat on Trudy. He and SCDP crew take a potential client to a brothel and Pete goes inside with a lady of the evening. We see what lures him to cheat on his wife.

Interesting episode. Don sees a woman from his past, then hallucinates about her. Sally gets scared about the Richard Speck serial killings in Chicago which was a theme in this episode, Peggy acts tough with Roger and then takes in an African American secretary and doesn’t treat her with respect and Joan throws out Greg. A very interesting bridge epsiode. Matt Weiner, Jon Hamm, Jessica Paré, Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks talk about it.

Here’s the scene that fooled a lot of people on Twitter, Draper killing an ex-lover who walked into his apartment and basically stalked him. He shoves her under the bed, but as we find out, it was all a hallucination. Wild stuff.

Don and Harry try to get the Rolling Stones to make one of their songs into a commercial for Heinz and hang out with young groupies instead. Peggy attempts to hire a new copywriter. Pete announces Mohawk Airlines has returned as a client to Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce and disses Roger in the process. Plus, there’s a retroactive shot at one of the current Republican Presidential candidates. It’s all in a day’s work for Mad Men.

Recap of Mad Men, Season 5, Episode 1

Ah, Mad Men is back. It feels right.

In the premiere episode, we see that Don has married Megan, Joan has given birth and is struggling if Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce wants her to return. Peggy is still feeling unappreciated. Pete is still ambitious. Roger is well, Roger and Bert Cooper remains Bert Cooper.

And what series creator Matthew Wiener didn’t want you to know before the premiere is that Season 5 takes place in the year 1966, just as the 1960′s was about to become a powderkeg both socially and politically. This episode meshes where the decade was heading.

Mad Men is Back. Hurry Up and Get Here!

Just 20 days and counting until the two hour season premiere of Mad Men’s 5th season. It occurs on March 25 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.

Let’s provide a few videos and you can watch these while I work on the overdue Primetime & Late Night Viewing Picks.

First, here’s a video promoting that Joan is back. Yes, Joan. We love Joan. Christina Hendricks is hot.

Since it’s been a year since we last saw a new episode of Mad Men, might as well provide a primer on what happened in Season 4. AMC has done just that in this video. You might have forgotten that Don Draper is married again, Joan is pregnant with with Roger’s baby and a few other details.

So what’s in store in Season 5? The cast and crew will tell us while not revealing too much. No scenes from the upcoming season, unfortunately.

Lastly, this video doesn’t give us much only to say “The Wait is Almost Over.” Well hurry the eff up and get here!

Mad Men Season 5 Promo

Our first promo for Season 5 of Mad Men is out. It doesn’t reveal much, but I’m sure future promos will give us tastes of what we can expect. As I did for Season 4, I will post videos after each episode. Here’s an example in case you’re a new reader.

Mad Men, Season 4, A Look Inside The Season Finale

Well, this was an interesting episode. If you haven’t seen it yet, my suggestion is to bookmark this page and then return when you’ve seen the season finale.

Lots of stuff happened. Don Draper gets engaged, but not to whom you might think based on previous episodes. Peggy and Ken Cosgrove get new business for the firm, but find their news is overshadowed by Don’s announcement. Betty was being a complete cunt in this episode (sorry, there’s no other way to describe Betty in this episode). There’s Joan’s bombshell in the last ten minutes that she didn’t go through with the abortion and she’s carrying Roger’s baby, only to tell her husband Greg stationed in Vietnam that the baby is his. And you have Don discovering that he’s comfortable with the current situation, but not knowing if this is actually right.

Since this is the final episode of the season, we don’t have a sneak peek, but we do have plenty of videos of the finale titled “Tomorrowland”.

Overall, I’d give this season an A minus. It started off slowly, but ramped up around episode 4. There were some really excellent episodes this season. I’m looking forward to season 5. And of course, you’ll see the recaps here once the episodes are over. 

Mad Men, Season 4, Episode 13 Sneak Peek and A Look Inside Episode 12

This will be our last sneak peek of the season, but we will do a look inside Episode 13 next week.

Wow. What can you say about tonight’s episode? This certainly sets up next Sunday. You have the partners all nervous about losing Lucky Strike and being played for another cigarette advertiser (eventually becoming Virginia Slims). Don deciding to write an ad in the New York Times declaring Sterling Cooper Draper & Pryce out of the tobacco advertising business causing an uproar at the firm. The firings certainly marking the sign of the current times. Then you have Don helping out Pete as a gesture for losing a military client earlier in the season. All interesting stuff. And we have the agency trying to keep its head above water through all this. Then there’s Sally’s issues and Betty still being a child. Let’s take a look at the episode, then take a look at next week’s.

We have just two more episodes left in this season. It’s flown by, but so much has happened. And what can I say about Don Draper that hasn’t already been said? The man could be on a sinking ship, but he can still get the women. This season, he’s slept with two secretaries (two!), Dr. Miller, a prostitute who slapped him and I believe I’m forgetting someone else. Amazing. Right after the episode, I tweeted “Don Draper, you are the envy of every living man in the world tonight.”

Mad Men, Season 4, Episode 11 Sneak Peek and A Look Inside Episode 10

This season’s theme of “Who is Don Draper” came to a climax tonight with one of the most compelling episodes yet. From the moment the government agents went to visit Betty to when the normally calm and cool Don lost it and had a panic attack, the entire episode had a lot of thrilling moments. And there were plenty of things going on like Joan having an abortion, Pete Campbell not wanting to take the fall for Don, but eventually does, Lane having to deal with his father and Dr. Faye Miller wanting to get closer to Don. And there’s Sally getting to go to see The Beatles at Shea Stadium. Let’s look at the episode.

We have Jon Hamm, Jared Harris, John Slattery and Christina Hendricks talking about “Hands and Knees”. No Matthew Weiner here, but just the actors talking about their characters and that’s quite interesting.

Hard to believe that this season of Mad Men is almost over. Tonight’s episode was certainly dark, but I didn’t expect the results to come out like this. And we got to see more of Sally. Then the Roger and Joan dynamic returned. Finally, Don and Dr. Miller got to hook up, but there were some potential bumps in the road. In this scene, Don’s secretary, Mrs. Blankenship, kicks the bucket and the office tries to deal with it while an important client meeting is taking place.

Here’s Joan and Roger are in a bad neighborhood and get robbed. Then, they hook up.

This week’s episode wasn’t as good as last week’s, but it was still good. Some interesting interplay between Joan and Peggy. Of course, there’s the immaturity of Betty coming into the forefront once again. And there’s Don being the playboy once again. What a bang up episode tonight. “The Suitcase” showed us another side of Don Draper’s personal hell and also gave us a look of his relationship with Peggy. This is one of the best episodes I’ve seen of this series, but I also said that about last week’s episode.

I’m going to break format here and give you the look inside this episode with Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss and Matthew Weiner.

Let’s focus on one scene where Don and Peggy have it out after she apparently breaks up with Mark.

One more scene from tonight’s episode, Don and Peggy return from their night out. Don is drunk. Peggy finds a drunk Duck Rogers and then Duck and Don duke it out.

On this night where Mad Men deservedly won the Emmy once again for Outstanding Drama Series, we have one of the best episodes of the season, and perhaps of the entire run. The episode titled “Waldorf Stories” has Don spiraling down his personal abyss while supposedly being on top of his professional career. Great stuff.
