  • To commemorate the upcoming COP30, we took a look at the research we publish in support of the SDGs associated with climate and the environment, which brought up a total of 9,875 research papers published to date so far this year. The SDGs in our survey include: 6, Clean Water and Sanitation; 7, Affordable and Clean Energy; 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities; 12, Responsible Consumption and Production; 13, Climate Action; 14, Life Below Water; and 15, Life on Land. From a paper urging the UN to rethink IPCC climate models led by the "father of global warming," to a pioneering study on the consideration of biodiversity in solar farm planning, here are five of some of the most impactful Taylor & Francis articles published to date this year showcasing research aligned with the SDGs around climate or environment. Read: “Investing in our planet's future: Taylor & Francis research to achieve the SDGs”: http://spr.ly/6048AXLFG #Sustainability #SDGs

The right side is edited so that the sunflower is in blue with white intersecting lines forming a grid pattern and white dots where the lines intersect, mimicking the appearance of solar panels. Behind the petals, instead of leaves, we see a pale blue sky with clouds.
  • There are more questions than answers when it comes to the question of generative AI and its impact on global energy consumption. We sat down with five experts, Dr. Soenke Ziesche, Dr. Lirong Liu, Dr. Sukhpal Singh Gill, Dr. Magdalena Klemun, and Jenny Rinkinen, who provided insight on where to start. Whether you’re a researcher, a policymaker, or simply interested in monitoring your own personal footprint, you’re sure to improve your knowledge with our latest article “Managing the soaring energy demands of generative AI”: http://spr.ly/6045AS7eH #AI #Sustainability Soenke Dr. Ziesche

  • Evidence-Based Toxicology is a gold open-access journal created to support the use of evidence-based methods and open science practices in the toxicological and environmental health sciences. A lot of work is being done on changing publishing practices to better support a healthy, well-functioning research ecosystem. These include efforts to make research data more accessible and easier to re-use, make peer-review more rewarding, and improve the transparency and accountability of editorial decision-making. To date, few toxicology journals have brought all these initiatives together in one place. EBT was set up to do this, as the official journal of the Evidence-Based Toxicology Collaboration, to test and develop journal policies that could inspire change in scientific publishing practices. • For five decades, corporations spent millions pursuing a floor-cleaning robot. Legions of engineers toiled, dozens of patents were issued, yet every effort failed. Then came Roomba. The new book “Dancing with Roomba: Cracking the Robot Riddle and Building an Icon” by Roomba’s developer Joe Jones provides a rare view behind the scenes, revealing how a revolutionary product came to be, how it works, and how a tiny company was able to best a crowd of corporate giants. Anyone who owns a Roomba, works in technology, dreams of building a product, or is just curious about the robot that launched a million memes will find much to love.
