Q: Does Kindle Support EPUB? What are kindle supported formats?
A: Initially, the Kindle Paperwhite was designed exclusively to read books purchased from the Amazon Kindle Store. These books use Amazon's proprietary formats, such as KFX, MOBI, AZW3, and AZW.
Today, however, Amazon fully supports the EPUB format via its "Send to Kindle" service. This allows you to seamlessly add your EPUB files to your Kindle library without any third-party conversion software. You can upload your EPUB files using the Send to Kindle website, desktop app, or mobile app, and they will be automatically converted and delivered to your device.
Important note: Your Kindle will not recognize EPUB files if you simply copy them directly to the device via USB. You must use the official "Send to Kindle" method for them to work.
Q: Does kindle support drm-protected epub files?
It's important to note that most commercially sold EPUBs, such as those from Google Play Books, Kobo, and Nook, are protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM). This security measure locks the eBook to specific platforms and prevents it from being opened on unauthorized devices, including the Kindle Paperwhite. So before transfer your epub books to kindle, please remove drm from Epub books first.
Method 1. Send ePub to Kindle Paperwhite Online
Amazon now allows us to directly send ePub format books to Kindle by web.
Note: The epub you send to kindle should be DRM-free epub files. If your epub files are protected by drm, please skip to method 2 to remove drm from epub books first.
Step 1. Go to Amazon official Send to Kindle Online page (make sure that you already logged into your Amazon account).
Step 2. Click on the yellow button "Select files from device" to upload an ePub file.
Step 3. Select an ePub and add to your library, send.
Step 4. Wait for the ePub file to be sent to Kindle.
Wait until the ePub has been sent across. Once it says “In Library”, you can pick up your kindle to sync and download the newly received file.
1. This method only works for drm free ePub files. If your downloaded ePub books are with drm, please remove ePub drm first.
2. It's likely that the sent ePub files will be with the format displaying issues on your Kindle device.

Method 2. Convert EPUB to Kindle Supported Format
To read ePub on Kindle Paperwhite, the best and simplest way is ebook format conversion. As we all know that Kindle only reads kindle format such as Mobi/AZW3, so how about converting epub to kindle format?

As an ebook fan, you must have heard of Calibre. This is a free ebook management tool, which helps you convert ebooks from one format to another. So you can use it to convert your epub files to Kindle format.
Download Calibre, and launch it. Then add your downloaded epub books, select them and click on "Convert books" icon. Choose Mobi/AZW3 as your output format.
Notice: To convert DRM-protected EPUB books, please need to install Calibre DRM Removal plugins.

You will take high risk to use this method. Please back up everything before jailbreaking your Kindle Paperwhite.

After successful jailbreaking, you need to install epub reader app to help you open epub books (it means you don't have to convert epub to mobi format).
