Scan of the Malayalam bible printed in 1811 at Bombay Courier press. This is the first known attempt of translating bible to Malayalam language. Only the first four books of New Testament was translated and printed. The translation was based on the Syriac version of the Bible. Hence the translation contains lot of syriac words. It is recorded thatÂ Kayamkulam philipose ramban and few other Syrian Christian Priests were behind this translation.Â

Just after this translation attempt, Church Mission society missionary Benjamin Bailey started translating Bible to Malayalam which eventually became the first complete translation of Bible to Malayalam language.Â
