Computed Tomography (CT) scanners refer to x-ray machines that combine multiple x-ray images, processed by a computer, to produce cross-sectional and, if necessary, three-dimensional images of internal organs and body structures.
These devices are used by healthcare providers to visualise internal anatomical features for diagnostic purposes. CT scanners are found in both hospitals, which primarily provide inpatient care, and ambulatory care settings, which focus on outpatient services.
This indicator is expressed as the number of CT scanners per 1 000 000 inhabitants.
