Mental health is a universal part of human life. Across the globe, millions of people live with mental health conditions every year, and the effects reach far beyond individuals—impacting families, friends, workplaces, and entire communities. Mental well-being is something that concerns us all, and access to support should never be out of reach.
To help bring attention to these issues, the first week of October is observed worldwide as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). Since its introduction in 1990, this week has served as an opportunity for communities to come together, challenge stigma, and promote greater understanding of mental health.
In 2025, MIAW will take place from October 5–11 with the theme “Building Community: Supporting Mental Well-being Together.” This theme highlights the importance of collective action, local initiatives, and meaningful connections in creating environments where mental health is valued and supported.
To mark the occasion, the Chattogram Wikimedia Community is hosting an online edit-a-thon. Participants will focus on improving and creating Bangla Wikipedia articles about mental health—covering conditions, treatment approaches, awareness campaigns, and the contributions of advocates. The aim is to provide accurate, reliable, and stigma-free information in Bangla, ensuring that free knowledge can support mental well-being for everyone.
By taking part, you will help reduce knowledge gaps, raise awareness, and contribute to building a more informed and compassionate community through Wikipedia.
