WelcomePlasma is a special state of matter. It is hot, tenuous and usually spectacular to look at. Some of the most dramatic natural phenomena to be seen on Earth, such as lightning and the Northern and Southern lights, are manifestations of plasma. But plasma is not just a natural wonder. The special properties of plasma are exploited in numerous modern industries. The National Centre for Plasma Science and Technology (NCPST) was founded in 1999 as a focus for fundamental and applied research in Ireland and the wider world. NCPST is an interdisciplinary grouping including chemists, engineers, mathematicians and physicists, and maintains collaborations all over the world. NCPST also has strong links with industrial partners in Ireland and abroad. This website has further information on the NCPST's activities, expertise and people. NCPST always has opportunities for researchers at post-graduate and post-doctoral levels. Please contact us.
