F-Zero X races onto Euro VC

Two new titles this week bring the total available for download in the region to over 100.

Futuristic racing game F-Zero X will be one of two new titles available for European Wii owners to download from Virtual Console today. F-Zero X was originally released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 system, and is a sequel to the original Super Nintendo Entertainment System title F-Zero and the third in the series.

Produced by gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto, gamers can control 30 different futuristic hover vehicles and play on more than 20 tracks. The game has five different modes--Time Attack, Death Race Mode, multiplayer VS mode, Grand Prix, and Practice Mode. F-Zero X is the 100th title that Nintendo has released for the European Virtual Console.

The second game up for grabs is J.J. and Jeff, a side-scrolling platform game originally released on the TurboGrafx in 1990. The game, called Kato-chan and Ken-chan in Japan, features two bungling detectives muddling through a kidnapping case. The pair run, jump, kick, and spray-paint their way through six levels, battling enemies and munching hidden snacks to give their energy a boost.

F-Zero X can be downloaded for 1,000 Wii points (approx. £7.00), whereas J.J. and Jeff costs 600 Wii points (£4.20).

you ain't gonna see the mighty roaring F-Zero X on xblah! ever! derr. but you can still enjoy pac-man! (notice how online play didn't turn that into a 'new' classic)

wolfos, get over your self. gamers want to play online, regardless of how ''average gamer'' you think you are. it has less to do with halo and more to do with your self righteous ego.

god, typing on a wii sucks

First off. How had is it for people to NOT moan about the WIi? Guess what. No matter what you say, its stilling more then other consoles currently. Get over the fact its "Not your type of thing."

Secondly, to the people moaning that GX is better. Shining Force 2 is better then 1. Sonic 2 is better then Sonic 1. Sometimes buying the one before is just becouse YOU LIKED THE ORIGINAL!.

Oh, And "Does it have online, No". AL13NK1LL3R, will you stop asuming that makes a game. Bloody newbie gamers that ruining gaming for others becouse "Its not halo" ....god

AL13NK1LL3R > It's bringing classics to an ew console. You might be able to get them elsewhere, but if you can't then here it is.

icarus212001 > Thats not the VC then. The virtual Console is bringing classic games. Maybe bringing original content to the Shop channel is a better way to say it.

Best F-Zero. GX would have had my vote but not many liked it as i did, so multiplayer wasnt as fun.

Has anyone ever beaten F-Zero X 100%? I'm more than halfway with all the pilots on all the cups under easy, medium, expert, and at least once with all of them on master.

Thats got my vote for best F-Zero game so far. We use to play this game all the time, fun races, better then the gamecube version which was almost good but kind of sucked.

There's no reason for not buying F-Zero GX instead, like many people already said. Everything is better, and it even supports widescreen.

    Posted Jun 15, 2007 8:41 am PT

F-Zero GX is so superior to F-Zero X that the VC download is probably unnecessary, especially since you can probably find GX for around the same price in the bargain bin. I mean, how many futuristic racers out there feature as many play modes as GX and let you create and customize your own cars?

But for those who would rather play F-Zero X, it's not a bad game by any means. It even has some interesting bonus tracks, including a copy of Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64.

  • chisoxrule

    Posted Jun 15, 2007 8:32 am PT

F-Zero X was a worthy follow up to the original but like someone mentioned earlier it would be wiser just to get F-Zero GX. Same holds true for Mario Kart Double Dash in comparison to the N64 version.

  • SaxxyGamer18

    Posted Jun 15, 2007 8:22 am PT

Oh, and it's pointless to download this. You can get the vastly superior F-Zero GX for less than ten bucks. Kind of a stupid download, eh?

  • SaxxyGamer18

    Posted Jun 15, 2007 8:22 am PT

It was rated for the US too, so...it should come soon.

    aah F-ZERO.
When I finally mastered this game it was somthing.
All cups Master X Cup everything.

Well I don't have a Wii yet. But when I get it there is really no point in wasting (how many points) to get this game.

I already beat it and I can play it anytime I like on my N64 cart.(I still play it now and again especially after I have played F-ZERO GX on the gamecube)

    So, yeah.
Great game for those who never got the chance to play it back in the day.
Or for those that have already parted with their N64!!!

    aaah the memories...
ta na na na ta na na na na na taa ta na ta na ta ta na ta ta na naaaa... ...
If you don't know what that is then all I can say is
