本書由英國宣教士巴克禮牧師(Rev. Dr. Thomas Barclay)參與翻譯，1916年出版新約。巴牧師在73歲時又開始翻譯舊約，終於在1930年完成，而於1933年出版新舊約。台語羅馬字聖經是唯一用羅馬拼音寫成，台語發音最正確的聖經，是巴牧師一生奉獻給台灣最寶貴、最恆久的禮物。
