Fox Sports Florida/Sun Sports Tells Dish Subscribers What They’re Missing

Just received this press release from Fox Sports Florida/Sun Sports and I’m posting it because Amy Pempel, the PR person for the regional sports network, has been very good to Fang’s Bites. I’m not taking sides here. I do have DirecTV, but that satellite provider has had its issues with various companies as well. If Dish Network wants to send a release telling its side of this story, it’s more than welcome to.

Just to give you an update, earlier this month, FX and Fox Sports Net affiliates were pulled from Dish in a dispute with the satellite provider. Fox-owned local stations have also been pulled and it appears some affiliates are in danger of being removed from the satellite provider as well

AMA MOTOCROSS, SATURDAY, 3 PM ET (LIVE)NBC Sports presents live coverage this weekend of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross from Mt. Morris, Pa., airing Saturday 3-4 p.m. ET.

The series features the world’s fastest outdoor motocross racers, racing on the roughest, toughest tracks in the world. Motocross is the original extreme action sport, and the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship showcases pure motocross. The 12-round series began in California on Memorial Day weekend in May and ends in Pennsylvania on Labor Day weekend in September, and includes stops at premier motocross racing facilities across the country. While each track is unique, each race is run under the same format: two 30-minute-plus-two lap races per class with the scores from each race combined to determine the overall winner.

The broadcast team of Jason Weigandt, David Bailey, Jamie Bestwick and Tiffany Simons will call the action from High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa.

FOSTER GRANT IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, SUNDAY, 4 PM ET

NBC Sports presents taped coverage of the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 from Clearwater, Florida, airing on Sunday 4-5 p.m. ET.

Phil Liggett provides commentary of Sunday’s coverage featuring the culmination of the Ironman 70.3 series: its world championship in Clearwater, FL. More than 1,800 domestic and international competitors earned the right to compete by qualifying at one of 33 Ironman 70.3 events around the world. The incredibly competitive field includes previous Ironman world champions, Olympic medalists, and other top contenders including Americans Matt Reed and Mary Beth Ellis. The championship will consist of a grueling combination of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.

WORLD OF ADVENTURE SPORTS, SUNDAY, 5 PM ET 

NBC Sports presents the Emmy Award-winning World of Adventure Sports (WOAS) hosted by Pat Parnell this Sunday June 13, 5-6 p.m. ET. This episode features wakeboarding as the world’s best riders are showcased in Oakley’s Push Process latest action sports film. WOAS will then follow Guinness World record-holder athlete Ronnie Renner, and some of the dirt bike world’s most gifted athletes on the sandy wilderness dune fields of Glamis, Calif.  Also in this episode, WOAS will provide an inside look at Castles in the Sky, produced by Taylor Steele. TNT Continues its Coverage of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Racing in Michigan on Sunday, June 13th

TNT gears up for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Racing from Michiganon Sunday, June 13 live from Michigan International Speedway.  The network will air exclusive coverage of the NASCAR Spint Cup Race 400 beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) with play-by-play announcer Adam Alexander calling the race alongside analysts Kyle Petty and Wally Dallenbach in the booth.  In addition, analyst Larry McReynolds will make frequent contributions from the in-field as he breaks down crew strategy and analyzes car adjustments.

The network will rev up its Countdown to Green pre-race coverage beginning at Noon ET with Lindsay Czarniak (host), Petty and McReynolds, with reports from pit reporters Marty Snider, Matt Yocum, Ralph Sheheen and Phil Parsons.  No. 29 Kevin Harvick will join TNT’s infield rig for an interview prior to the race to discuss the controversy that surrounded him and No. 20 Joey Logano and the conclusion of last week’s race in Pocono.  In addition, Czarniak will have an exclusive interview with NASCAR President Mike Helton.

TNT’s acclaimed Pride of NASCAR series will feature racing legend Davey Allison who was the 1987 NASCAR Rookie of the Year and 1992 Daytona 500 winner.

Dallenbach will once again breaks down race strategy during Wally’s World, as he is superimposed into live race footage from last season’s race in Michigan.  He will virtually walk along the track to discuss its nuances, with the ability to stop the race footage.

Lance Armstrong to Compete for the First Time Since His 2001 Win

The 2010 race features some of the world's top professional cyclists, including Lance Armstrong and defending race champion Fabian Cancellara as they compete in the final UCI Pro-Tour race before the Tour de France begins in July. 

VERSUS' coverage of the approximately 840 mile, nine-stage competition begins on Saturday, June 12 with daily one-hour stage re-caps from June 14-18, as well as a two-hour show on June 20 that will feature highlights of Stage 8 and full coverage of the final stage. Olsen died at the age of 69 of Mesothelioma. In 1979, Olsen was teamed with Dick Enberg forming one of the best NFL announcing teams in TV history lasting until 1989. Olsen also acted appearing in “Little House on the Prairie” and “Father Murphy”. Olsen was known as a gentle giant, but also formed one of the best defensive front lines in NFL history as part of the “Fearsome Foursome” with the Rams in the 1960′s.

Sun Sports & Fox Sports Florida To Air Documentary on Former Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden

Starting tomorrow, Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida will air a new documentary on former Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden who retired after the 2009-2010 college football season. I do have an advanced copy so expect a review of this either late tonight or sometime tomorrow before the first airing. Here are the details of the contents.

ORLANDO – Tuesday, January 26, at 8:00pm ET, Sun Sports, the regional television home for the Seminoles for 20+ years, will premiere a riveting, one-of-a-kind TV special on Bobby Bowden, entitled “Bobby: Reflections of a Legend.” 

This is not your ordinary TV profile highlighting his career. It will be a more personal look at what makes Bobby Bowden who he is, and much, much more.

A must-see television program for FSU fans produced by the network that has covered the ‘Noles and Coach Bowden for more than two decades, the one-hour program will also air on other FOX regional sports networks across the U.S., including Sun Sports’ sister network FOX Sports Florida.

Here’s what viewers can expect to see….The show looks at what makes Bobby Bowden tick…a look at both his personal and professional make-up. There are recollections from people who know him well from all eras, plus a conversation with Bobby himself. In the most basic terms, this is, aside from wins and losses, and aside from maybe even football, a study of why Bobby Bowden is who he is. Also, it’s candid reactions from people to his departure, and a very recent conversation with Bobby about his own feelings and what’s next for him.

Throughout all of this, Sun Sports weaves in and out of segments & topics using footage from Coach Bowden’s last game, the 2010 Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. The network also includes quite a bit of historical footage from over 30 years of his celebrated career.

And the Tar Heels’ field hockey team won the program’s sixth National Championship by defeating ACC rival Maryland, 3-2, thanks to Danielle Forward’s game winning goal with 11.7 seconds left in the game.

And ACC All Access reviews three fall championships: The 2009 ACC Cross Country Championships, where NC State took home the men’s title and Florida State won the women’s crown; and the Men’s Soccer Championship, at which the Virginia men’s soccer team recorded its eighth consecutive shutout, beating NC State, 1-0.

Six-time NBA All-Star, Jermaine O’Neal, has brought an immediate big man presence to the Miami HEAT since he was traded in February of 2009. Standing almost 7 foot tall, O’Neal is skilled on both ends of the floor. Playing injured for the past two seasons, Jermaine made a commitment to rejuvenate his body. “Inside the HEAT” gives fans a glimpse into his summer workouts.

Jermaine was a late bloomer, only beginning to play basketball in high school. “Inside the HEAT” takes viewers back to his hometown in Columbia, South Carolina, where Jermaine grew up. Jermaine was an immediate high school stand out and was drafted into the NBA out of high school, becoming the youngest player to enter the NBA. Drafted to the Portland Trail Blazers and then playing for the Pacers and Raptors before coming to the HEAT. In a candid and descriptive interview, Jermaine tells his story to “Inside the HEAT,” giving Sun Sports’ viewers insight into both the player and the man.

Two Fox Sports Net Press Releases

We have two announcements from two local Fox Sports Net affiliates.

First, Fox Sports Florida will air a new edition of Inside the Magic featuring Mickael Pietrus.

FOX Sports Florida and Sun Sports will premiere the all-new “Inside the Magic: Mickael Pietrus” television special, hosted by Whit Watson, this week.

The first airing is Wednesday, December 2, at 10:00pm on FOX Sports Florida immediately following the network’s coverage of the Knicks @ Magic game (N/Cent FL). The first statewide airing is scheduled for Friday, December 4, at 6:30pm on FOX Sports Florida.

Here’s a brief summary of the new show….

This edition of “Inside the Magic“ joins Mickael Pietrus as he returns to his home island of Guadeloupe.

• Mickael takes viewers to the recreation center where his dream of becoming an NBA player all began. He fell in love with basketball after watching Michael Jordan play on television. He also talks about how he turned the tragedy of losing his mother at the age of nine into motivation to accomplish his dream.
  

• Mickael also chats about his return trips to Guadelupe each year to hold a week long basketball camp. He talks about how he enjoys the opportunity to teach the game that he loves, and to give other children the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

• As viewers will see, the trip home wasn’t all work, as Mickael takes time to enjoy himself as he goes boating, fishing, repelling, and takes a tour with the winners of the Discover Guadeloupe Islands with Mickael Pietrus.

Saturday Morning’s Links Or A Whole New World For Soccer Fans

I’m up this morning watching English Premier League soccer on ESPN2. Late last night, ESPN came to an agreement with Fox Soccer Channel to air two games a week, early Saturday morning games and Monday afternoon games so fans who had had to depend on Setanta Sports and shelling out money to watch the games don’t have to anymore. Setanta still has the Saturday 10 a.m. and early Sunday morning games, but not as many as in the past. It’s a nice feeling to wake up to EPL games on ESPN2 for the next 10 months.

I’ve been critical of ESPN for many things, but getting the EPL this season in both the UK and the US is a great move. I can hardly contain my excitement.

Of course earlier this year, ESPN won the rights to air EPL games in the UK and its website is up and running.
