Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins — Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Pam Oliver & Erin Andrews, 4:30PM
FedEx Field – Landover, MDSCHRAGER: YOUNG GUNS CAN CHANGE QB POSITION IN NFL WITH SUCCESS – For the first time in NFL history, three rookie quarterbacks will start playoff games – Andrew Luck for the Colts, Russell Wilson for the Seahawks and Robert Griffin III for the Redskins. Two of them; Seattle’s Wilson and Washington’s RGIII are featured on FOX’s Seahawks-Redskins Wild Card matchup. FOXSports.com NFL contributor Peter Schrager can see the prototype of the NFL quarterback change if the rookie signal callers and their second-year counterparts find ultimate success in the playoffs. “Wilson, Griffin, and Colin Kaepernick will be playing for the future of how teams draft quarterbacks. We’ve already seen the read-option work with great success in those three cities,” Schrager writes. “If one of these three can win a Super Bowl, don’t be shocked if the “prototype” of an NFL quarterback changes from a standard drop-back guy to a mobile, outside-the-pocket playmaker moving forward.”

Fox NFL Sunday Quotage For Week 17 of the 2012 NFL Season
Let’s continue the Sunday NFL pregame show quotage with Fox NFL Sunday.
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 12/30/12
Bradshaw: Bears Would Be Worst Team In Playoffs
Long: “Peyton Manning is MVP. Adrian Peterson is offensive player of the year.”
Glazer Reports On Future Employment of Several NFL Head Coaches————————————————————————————————–
Co-host Terry Bradshaw believes that if the Chicago Bears make it to the playoffs, they will be the worst team in contention: “If this team makes it to the playoffs, it’d be the worst team in the playoffs. At one time this team was 7-1 with a defense that has scored nine defensive touchdowns, one short of the NFL record. They’re all about defense and have a quarterback in Jay Cutler who I don’t think even likes himself.”
—————————————————————————————————
FOX NFL Insider Jay Glazer went through what he expects to be the future employment of several NFL head coaches. Below are a few noteworthy predictions from Glazer:
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid: “I talked to Andy yesterday who said he’s going to meet with the owner Jeffrey Lurie on Monday. I think everybody realizes it’s a forgone conclusion that he’s out from there. He would like to absolutely coach this year coming up.”
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett: “We told you last week that his job was safe. Nothing has changed. He is in.”
San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner: “We know that Norv is out and general manager A.J. Smith is out as well. It’s a very attractive job out there in San Diego.”
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan: “I talked to Rex Ryan last night. He said ‘absolutely I want to come back and coach this team again.’ If he comes back and stays his offensive coordinator Tony Sparano will be gone. Rex Ryan has been given no indication one way or the other.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson gives his opinion on resting players vs. not resting players once your team has clinched a playoff berth: “It’s more important to be sharp in the playoffs than resting your players in a meaningless game. I like playing all healthy players into the third quarter. That way they can’t take their gear off at halftime. Then in the third quarter, rest your key guys.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan feels that the New York Giants stars need to play consistently: “To play well, you have to have your stars playing at a certain level – don’t drop below a certain level. The Giants stars are up one week and down the next. The stars need to be the consistent factor that the young guys can feed off of and that’s what they haven’t had.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Howie Long predicts who will be MVP this year: “Peyton Manning is MVP. Adrian Peterson is offensive player of the year.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Howie Long selects his NFL coach of the year: “I’m going to go with Bruce Arians. What an emotional year for the Indianapolis Colts by everyone’s estimation I believe. Everyone thought this was a rebuilding year including those inside the organization. The job he’s done there is nothing short of remarkable.”
Analyst Jimmy Johnson added: “How about Indianapolis Colts head coach Bruce Arians going to San Diego and Norv Turner going to Indianapolis to be the offensive coordinator for Andrew Luck.”
—————————————————————————————————
Co-Host Terry Bradshaw on Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson: “I love Russell Wilson. He is one touchdown pass away from tying Peyton Manning’s rookie record of 26 touchdowns. What he’s done as an undersized quarterback, if that’s what you want to call it, has been impressive.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Howie Long believes the 49ers defense needs someone to step up: “What I saw last week was a major concern particularly on defense. You could write it off to it being a divisional game on the road, or the week before traveling all the way to New England and playing in a very physical night game but with 49ers defensive tackle Justin Smith out of that lineup, they’ll need help. He’s a bona fide, card carrying bad man and there was a canyon sized void in that defense and that was apparent. If they can’t get Justin Smith back for the playoffs, somebody needs to step up and apply for that bad man card and it has to be linebacker Aldon Smith.”
—————————————————————————————————
Following a one-on-one interview with Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews about Peterson coming back from a torn ACL last season, analyst Michael Strahan had this to say: “The Vikings trainers had never seen a guy be that ready so fast without losing a lot of strength in his knee. It blew everybody away. If you are the Green Bay Packers today, you look at this guy and it’s like playing against Barry Sanders. The coaches will say, ‘he’s going to make some plays, he’s going to bust a big one but just don’t let him bust two, three or four big ones.’”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan previews the NFC East divisional matchup between the Cowboys and Redskins: “With outside linebacker Demarcus Ware being banged up for the Cowboys, does the Cowboys defense have enough to make the Redskins one-dimensional as an offense? I don’t see it. Everything hinges off of the running game of Alfred Morris – another rookie of the year potential candidate if you didn’t have those three young quarterbacks playing well. I don’t think the Cowboys have enough to make the Redskins offense one-dimensional. It’s going to be tough for them to win this game in D.C.”
We’ll conclude with NBC’s Football Night in America.

NFL on FOX analyst Brian Billick examines how these teams will look to change the fortunes of their organizations heading into 2013. “Each team will be looking for that right formula to turn the fortunes of their franchise around. Over the last few years that formula seems to be hiring a new coach and then acquiring your franchise quarterback at the same time.” This formula is, Billick writes, “easier said than done. Current playoff teams such as Houston, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Green Bay and Indianapolis did just that.”

Fox NFL Sunday Quotage For Week 16 of the 2012 NFL Season
Let’s move to Fox NFL Sunday and its quotage today. Wanted to apologize to Jay Glazer incorrectly quoting him earlier today. It was on Twitter. He correctly laid the smackdown on me.
Anyway, here’s the quotage.
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 12/23/12
Johnson: Sanchez Stays in New York & Tebow Out of the League Entirely Next Season
Strahan on Cowboys: They Are Dangerous If They Can Stay Focused and Make the Playoffs
Glazer Reports Garrett Safe in Dallas After Leading Team Through Car Accident Tragedy—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on the factors involved in the Cowboys’ recent winning streak: “Tony Romo has had a lot of late game success the last few weeks and he deserves all the credit for that but one of the biggest differences for the Cowboys is the return of DeMarco Murray. Now you have to respect the Cowboys running game which opens up a lot of things for Romo. They are peaking at the right time. Winning these last minute games gives them a lot of confidence. They are dangerous if they can stay focused and make the playoffs because they are so unpredictable.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Howie Long believes starting Robert Griffin III against the Eagles this week isn’t worth the risk: “If Robert Griffin III isn’t near 100% with little or no limitation on that knee, I’d have a stationary bike set up right next to Mike Shanahan with a little glass box that says “break glass in case of emergency”. That’s the only way I’d put Griffin in the game today. I would have him healthy and for that home game versus Dallas to wrap up the season. Today’s game is winnable without him.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on which team will emerge from the NFL East: “The Giants are the most talented team on the field, but there’s no hunger there. It happens to team that have had success, especially defending champions. They get complacent. The hungriest team in the NFC East is the Washington Redskins and that’s why I pick them to win the division next week at home.”
—————————————————————————————————
On the 40th anniversary of the controversial play, co-host Terry Bradshaw reflects on his part in “The Immaculate Reception: “It’s a pleasure to have been a part of a play that caused so much controversy for 40 years, a play that I didn’t even see.”
—————————————————————————————————
FOX NFL SUNDAY insider Jay Glazer reports that head coach Jason Garrett has the backing of the Cowboys’ front office and will return next season: “Take his name off the hot seat. Jason Garrett is safe. It’s not so much the fact that they’ve won lately but also how he really helped the Cowboys during through their tragedy the last few weeks. The light that he’s helped provided in such a dark time means he will be back.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on how he thinks the Jets’ QB controversy will shake out next season: “Sanchez will stay in New York. Tebow will be out of the league entirely.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on Houston’s JJ Watt & San Francisco’s Aldon Smith closing in his single season sack record: “It’s amazing to watch the plays that JJ Watt makes and if Aldon Smith breaks the sack record, he could do it again. He has so much potential that untapped. When I broke the sack record, it was a miserable season, we were losing. Their teams are winning as a direct result of their sacks. Good luck to both and whoever breaks it should enjoy it because it’s well deserved and hard earned.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson isn’t convinced the Cowboys can continue their winning ways: “Tony Romo has the Cowboys scoring in the fourth quarter. They are finishing better than any team in the league but in this league the only finish that matters is the one for the ring. The jury is still out on them.”
CBS’ quotage is next.

Lynch on Urlacher saying he doesn’t care about fans:“At times as a player you get upset and frustrated with fans but of course you care about them. I’m sure at other times during his career he has said ‘we’ve got the greatest fans in the league. They’ve taken a beating by the fans and media but they’ve brought a lot of that on themselves. It’s a shame for a guy who’s been the face of that franchise for so many years.”
Lynch on New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan naming third string quarterback Greg McElroy as Sunday’s starter in favor of second string quarterback Tim Tebow: “I hate to say it but if Tim Tebow went out and played well then they’ve got a big situation on their hands. Not just from everybody saying, ‘where was this all season’ but in addition to that the frenzy that would happen going into the offseason. A big part of the problem with Tim is that he’s bad in practice and just doesn’t engender confidence from his coaches and players but if you put him out there in the game, usually good things happen.”
BILLICK: NFC EAST DRAMA? YOU CAN COUNT ON IT – The NFC East always finds itself in the headlines and the 2012 season is no different. As the Redskins, Cowboys and Giants head into the last two weeks of the season all tied at 8-6, NFL on FOX analyst Brian Billick is curious to see how the division shakes out. “This has been a compelling year in the NFC East, with an unusually convulsive division race. Over the course of this season, every one of these teams has been left for dead. But going into the final two weeks, the Redskins, Cowboys and Giants are in a dead heat,” Billick writes. “My best guess is that New Orleans upsets Dallas, while the Redskins run the table, beating Dallas and taking the division. I also think New York will beat Baltimore and then hammer Philly to grab a wild-card spot at 10-6.”

Fox NFL Sunday Quotage For Week 15 of the 2012 Season
Let’s see what the Fox NFL Sunday crew said about this week’s action.
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 12/16/12
Johnson: Sean Payton’s Value is Skyrocketing
Bradshaw: Niners Need to Refocus
Strahan, Johnson, Bradshaw & Long Debate: Eli or Peyton?—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Howie Long on where NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stands in light of former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue revoking suspensions of the New Orleans Saints players for their alleged role in ‘bountygate’: “I was with Roger up in Oakland and you would think that given Tagliabue’s decision and the overturning of the Ed Reed suspension, he might be on his heels. He’s dug in folks. As a matter of fact, he’s been given the responsibility of taking care of the game both on and off the field. Fines aren’t getting it done according to Roger Goodell. It’s now going to move to suspensions and if you think its controversial now wait until people start losing 200, 300, or 400 thousand dollars a week in a check and losing a game.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson believes New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton’s value is soaring: “Due to the New Orleans Saints struggling, Sean Payton’s value is skyrocketing. He will become either the highest paid coach in the league for the Saints or if he opens the door, he can have his choice of a couple other high profile jobs around the league.”
—————————————————————————————————
Due to the fallout from ‘Bountygate,’ analyst Jimmy Johnson says former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is perceived negatively around the league: “Right or wrong, he’s perceived as a coach that threw his fellow coaches under the bus and his players under the bus. His career is probably at the very bottom unless his buddy Jeff Fisher hires him in St. Louis.”
—————————————————————————————————
FOX NFL SUNDAY insider Jay Glazer reports that New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton will keep his options open: “They started negotiating with the Saints a couple of weeks ago and they’re really not close on that. People thought this was between the Saints and Dallas. If this thing doesn’t get done, like Jimmy [Johnson] was saying earlier, he is going to open it up everywhere and not limit his options.”
—————————————————————————————————
Co-host Terry Bradshaw thinks the 49er offense does more to design plays for Kaepernick than they should: “This offense has struggled a little bit since quarterback Colin Kaepernick took over. Running back Frank Gore has been all banged up. Gore went from averaging five and a half yards per carry down to four yards per carry. They’re doing more to design plays for Kaepernick than whats in the best interest for this 49er offense.”
—————————————————————————————————
Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, Michael Strahan & Howie Long debate which Manning brother they’d pick in a must-win game scenario.
Bradshaw: “My first argument is the simplest one. Eli has two world titles and Peyton has one. Peyton has also lost one and in the one that he lost, he threw an interception to Tracey Porter that he took back 74-yards for a touchdown. Also, if I just look at playoffs, Peyton has been in 19 and has only won eleven. Eli is eight of eleven in the playoffs. In those eight, he has 15 touchdown passes and two interceptions. He commands everything in the fourth quarter.” Johnson: “Numbers don’t lie. Peyton has a brand new supporting cast of players and he’s got more touchdowns, less interceptions, higher percentage of completion, and more wins. Give Peyton time, he’ll get those rings.”
Strahan: “Peyton has more wins but when it doesn’t matter. Eli is 8-3 in the playoffs. Eli is younger. I say he’s a little more handsome. Are you kidding me? Eli has the track record to prove that he comes through in big games and in big moments.”
Long: “We’re talking about two brothers. Two Super Bowl MVP’s. Three super bowl titles. Four league MVP’s. Just to put this in perspective, you’re good picking either but personally for whatever reason, I think it’s a magical year for Peyton Manning.”—————————————————————————————————
Despite an 11-2 record, co-host Terry Bradshaw believes today’s Falcons-Giants game is a must-win for Atlanta: “They need this win. This is their signature win.”

Fox NFL Sunday Quotage For Week 14 of the 2012 Season
Now to Fox NFL Sunday and its quotage for Week 14. Laura Okmin interviewed Dallas Cowboys General Manager and owner Jerry Jones on the Josh Brent incident and there’s more.
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 12/9/12
Johnson: Anything Short of Super Bowl Appearance by Niners Would be a Failure
Strahan on NFL Potentially Eliminating Kickoffs:
“Pretty soon they’re going to put them in bubble suits and call it football.”
Glazer Reports Update on Bounty Gate Hearings————————————————————————————————–
Analyst Jimmy Johnson says anything short of a Super Bowl appearance by the San Francisco 49ers would be considered a failure: “With the success they’ve had last year, anything short of a Super Bowl appearance would be a disappointment. They have a great defense, great running game, and a great special teams but can the quarterback give them a big play? It wouldn’t surprise me if Colin Kaepernick starts turning the ball over, then head coach Jim Harbaugh would go back to Alex Smith.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analysts Howie Long and Michael Strahan disagreed on whether the NFL should do away with kickoffs entirely:
Long: “I like it but don’t like the option they came up with.”
Strahan: “I don’t like it at all. It’s an important part of the game. It creates jobs for players and it’s certain players’ specialty. Pretty soon they’re going to put them in bubble suits and call it football.”—————————————————————————————————
NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports on the New Orleans Saints bounty gate hearings: “Earlier this week, the league tried to settle with the players. The players didn’t want to hear it, they rejected it, and didn’t want to have to admit to anything. I expect the former NFL Commissioner, Paul Tagliabue to have a ruling this week. I’ll be shocked if it’s the same ruling and penalties that Commissioner Goodell imposed.”
—————————————————————————————————
NFL on FOX reporter Laura Okmin interviewed Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones from Cincinnati prior to the Cowboys taking on the Bengals this afternoon. Okmin asked Jones to describe the emotions of the team following the tragic death of Cowboys player Jerry Brown.
Jones: “For the last few hours our focus has been on Jerry Brown. Our team loved him. They certainly are conscience of wanting his family to know and have as much of them as they can give. At the same time, they know that one of the best things they could do for him in his memory is to go out and play well.”FOX NFL SUNDAY insider Jay Glazer reported that every NFL player has a car service number on the back of their card to try and prevent this kind of tragedy from happening: “There are a couple of things. One of them is that on the back of every single NFL players card, there is a phone number that you can call to setup a limo service so you don’t go out and drink and drive. Several teams also have their own program in place where you can call a service to pickup your car. I had one NFL head coach tell me that he uses it.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson believes Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is playing scared: “This Minnesota team may have the best player in the entire league in Adrian Peterson and he may get 2,000 yards but points come with the passing game. Christian Ponder over the last couple months has been horrible, the worst quarterback in the league. He’s really struggling. Right now he’s playing scared, throwing check-downs. Check-downs might get you field goals but not touchdowns. They’re going to struggle because they just don’t have the explosive plays throwing the ball down the field.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Terry Bradshaw on the NFC North division: “It always comes back to the quarterback. The best quarterback in the NFC North is Aaron Rodgers. With Greg Jennings they’re explosive so I don’t see any change in the NFC North. The Packers will win the division.”
—————————————————————————————————
Former defensive end and analyst Michael Strahan gave viewers his top five pass rushers under the age of 25:
1. Von Miller – Denver Bronco
2. Aldon Smith – San Francisco 49ers
3. J.J. Watt – Houston Texans
4. Jason Pierre-Paul – New York Giants Added Strahan: “The most impressive thing about Jason Pierre-Paul is that he doesn’t know the game yet. When he figures out the game, anything I ever did as a New York Giant defensive lineman may be obsolete.”
5. Geno Atkins – Cincinnati Bengals—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on prospects of 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel: “He’s going to be great. He’s going to get bigger, stronger and he’s got a great feel for the game. I love him.”
Added analyst Howie Long on the new style of young NFL quarterbacks coming out of college: “Cam Newton and RGIII have changed the way teams are evaluating quarterbacks.”
—————————————————————————————————
Following a feature on Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, analyst Michael Strahan evaluated the Seahawks as a team: “The Seattle Seahawks have four things: a rookie quarterback who plays like a veteran; Marshawn Lynch in the running game; great defense; and you have the 12th man. This is a team that could run the table or at least win three out of the final four games.”
On to NBC’s preview of the Football Night in America interviews.
Another Surreal Sunday For the NFL Pregame Shows; CBS Makes Comeback of the Year
Last week, CBS was vilified for its failure to properly report on the Javon Belcher-Kasandra Perkins murder-suicide. In the wake of Josh Brent’s incident that led to the death of Dallas Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown, Jr., The NFL Today stepped up and went all in on the story.
For the other pregame shows, ESPN once again canceled Frank Caliendo’s comedic segment that was supposed air last week, but was pulled in the wake of the Belcher-Perkins tragedy. As the segment was about to air this week, ESPN pulled it again as the segment included Cowboys General Manager and owner Jerry Jones.
Fox NFL Sunday spent five minutes on the story at the top of its show. Reporter Laura Okmin was able to get an interview with Jones where he said the mood of the team was very somber. And Michael Strahan gave strong opinions about making the right choices and said NFL players don’t want to call a car to drive them as they don’t want to seen leaving a club late at night. But Strahan properly stated that Brent made the wrong choice and it cost Jerry Brown, Jr. his life.
As for The NFL Today, it not only opened without product placement as it did last week, it went above and beyond its call reporting on the Brent story. It used its “A” block to liberally report on the Brent story and also updated the Javon Belcher story showing Kansas City police video of officers talking with Belcher in his car just hours before he shot and killed his girlfriend last Saturday. It also included a segment with Bill Macatee in Cleveland before the Chiefs-Browns game discussing how the team is coping since the incident.
But back to the Brent story, CBS had Cowboys radio analyst Babe Laufenberg who also works for the network’s Dallas TV affiliate talking about the flight to Cincinnati where the team is playing today. And when the interview was over, CBS went to its panel where Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher gave some of their strongest opinions to date. Sharpe said that the blame for the incident lies squarely on Brent saying Brown’s death was preventable. Sharpe said Brown’s decision to drive while intoxicated, “careless and wreckless behavior.”
Cowher said, “Playing in the NFL is a privilege, not an entitlement.”
James Brown gave a commentary on domestic violence that Bob Costas would be proud of. JB went for two minutes talking into the camera stating that since Kasandra Perkins lost her life, at least another 21 women have died at the hand of domestic violence.
The “A” block went for 12 minutes and as Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch tweeted, treated viewers like adults. This is the segment that CBS should have started with last week, but the network appears to have learned a lesson and made a very good comeback with the Brent incident.
Kudos for all of the early Sunday NFL pregame shows for their handling of the Dallas Cowboys story this week.

As NFL on FOX analyst Brian Billick points out, in the modern NFL teams not only do not need strong running games to win it all, they don’t even need mediocre ones. “The diminished need for a powerful running game has been well documented in recent years,” Billick writes. “Of the past four Super Bowl champions, only New Orleans was a top 10 rushing team the year they won it all. In fact, the others were not simply mediocre — they were more like dreadful: the Giants ranking last in the NFL in rushing yards in 2011, Green Bay ranking 24th in 2010 and even the Pittsburgh Steelers finishing 23rd in the league in rushing in 2008.” Billick also notes that the leading rushing teams of 2012 can hardly be described as the cream of the crop. “When you look at the top teams in the NFL in rushing so far this year, you see a few that do that one thing well, but little else. Minnesota, Buffalo and Kansas City rank 3rd, 4th and 5th, currently in rushing yardage in the NFL, and none have winning records. Meanwhile, at the top of the standings, several Super Bowl contenders — Green Bay, Denver, Baltimore, Atlanta — rank in the bottom third of the league in rushing yards.”

LYNCH: RG3 MAKES YOU CRINGE WHEN HE RUNS THE BALL – NFL on FOX analyst and 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist John Lynch joined Colin Cowherd’s radio program earlier this week and talked about Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III’s impressive start to his professional career. “In the pro game, a guy like Robert Griffin III, is a little more maddening for defensive backs because you want to have an answer for everything,” said Lynch. “When you have a guy like RG3 that can throw and is mobile, coupled with an offensive mind like Shanahan’s that is creative in how to utilize him, you just can’t have an answer for everything.” Lynch feels RG3 needs to be sure to protect himself when scrambling out of the pocket. “Long term sustainability, you’ve got to be able to throw the ball and we’ve see that. You get this nervous sensation every time RG3 is running the ball that he’s going to get knocked out because he’s a smaller guy…He’s doing a terrific job but you do just cross your fingers each time he holds the ball because he takes some hellacious hits.”

Fox NFL Sunday Quotage For Week 13 of the 2012 Season
We move to quotes from Fox NFL Sunday which spent its entire first segment on the Jovan Belcher/Kasandra Perkins murder/suicide story before moving on to its regular segments.
Take a look at what was said. And we have one video of Jay Glazer reporting on double tragedy in the NFL in Kansas City and Cleveland. Interestingly, Fox does not include that text in the following press release. I’ll post the video after the text.
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 12/2/12
Strahan on the Falcons: I Finally Believe in the Birds
Glazer Reports on McClain Suspension & Allen Injury
Johnson: Jim Harbaugh Is Doing What Is Best for 49ers By Starting Kaepernick—————————————————————————————————
Co-host Terry Bradshaw on what he sees missing from the Packers offense this season: “When [former Packers offensive coordinator] Joe Philbin left for Miami, Mike McCarthy lost his sounding board. He lost the guy that he can bounce ideas off of and come up with a good game plan. They sorely miss him. They have Tom Clements now but I don’t think he’s as good as the guy coaching Miami.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on how Jim Harbaugh is handling his quarterback controversy in San Francisco: “I’m amused how Jim Harbaugh toys with the media. He understands the quarterback position and understands that he’s going to need Alex Smith so he’s going to try and keep Alex positive. Harbaugh knows what he’s doing and what’s best for this football team and that’s Colin Kaepernick.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on the 11-1 Falcons: “They’ve taken two of the best quarterbacks in the league, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning, and made them look ordinary. This is a defense that’s aggressive. Once they have their hands on the ball from a turnover, they take advantage. Last week’s win against the Saints was the first time this whole season that I saw the 11-1 Falcons and said ‘I get it’. I believe in the birds!”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on the Pittsburgh back-up quarterback situation: “They should have at least one young quarterback that isn’t on social security on their roster.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on the hit Vikings defensive end Jared Allen put on Bears guard Lance Louis, knocking him out for the season: “When there’s an interception and you have these offensive lineman that aren’t used to chasing or running to try and tackle somebody, you know that you can blow a guy up. But out of respect for the game, if you want to blow him up, you can still hit him in the body. To see Jared do that was a surprise to me. I’m disappointed because it was so unnecessary.”
—————————————————————————————————
NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports on the real reason that Oakland linebacker Rolando McClain was suspended for two weeks: “There’s a history. A couple of weeks ago he was fined $1,500 for conduct detrimental to the team. He’s gotten into it with the coaches. They’ve benched him, tried to get him to run on scout teams but he hasn’t agreed to do much. He got into last week with head coach Dennis Allen. Someone asked him last week if he even cared and he said ‘I have four million reasons not to care’ and coach said that’s it. That’s what the players are telling me.”
Glazer also reported on an injury Jared Allen has been playing with all season: “Jared Allen this entire season has been playing with a torn labrum in his shoulder. It’s a tear that requires surgery. He knew about it going into the season. Doctors told him if he had it now, he would miss the season so he decided to wait until after the season. He hasn’t missed practice but it’s just kind of hanging on there. It’s one of the reasons he’s gone from 22 sacks last season down to seven this season.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan the Jets’ tumultuous season: “The Jets don’t have playmakers. Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes were the guys you could expect great plays from. Mark Sanchez has so much pressure on him but I don’t think the players trust that he has the ability to bring them back if they are down and they don’t trust Tebow so where do they go? That team is in turmoil and it starts from up top.”
Co-host Terry Bradshaw on who is going to be held responsible for the Jets mess: “Any organization needs to be held accountable. Mike Tannenbaum is responsible for putting the talent together for the Jets. Someone’s head is going to be chopped off after this season and I have a feeling it’s not going to be Rex Ryan. Rex is safe but I think Tannenbaum is going to have to go.”
—————————————————————————————————
Co-host Terry Bradshaw on Peyton Manning comeback: “I admire Peyton Manning for making a decision to continue his career with all the uncertainty after being out one full year. When I got injured at 33, I’d had enough. I didn’t want to go through any rehab or surgery to fix my elbow. I was finished. Peyton had some unfinished business and maybe he motivated a little bit by his brother.”
As mentioned, at the top of Fox NFL Sunday, the show spent the first six minutes on the tragedy in Kansas City. Insider Jay Glazer reported on another death in the NFL family in Cleveland that was overshadowed by what happened with the Chiefs. The video is below.
That’s it for the Fox quotage.

It’s not merely good enough to avoid turning the ball over; you need to generate big offensive plays as well. On defense, you can’t just sit back and play a deep prevent defense all the time; you have to generate turnovers as well. On both sides of the ball, gambling to generate a big play often leaves you open to committing a big error. Toxic Differential does a good job at showing how teams balance risk and reward.”

Fox NFL Sunday Quotage For Week 12 of the 2012 Season
Let’s move to the NFL on Fox and its quotage from today. No videos this time.
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 11/25/12
Johnson: RG3 Would Be My First Pick
Johnson, Long, Bradshaw, Strahan Debate Quarterback Controversy in San Francisco
Strahan: “If You’re Looking For a Head Coach, Mike Nolan Should Be at The Top of Your List”—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson would take RG3 if he was starting a football team: “He’s not going to be the MVP, I understand that. However, if I was going to start a team today as a rookie, Robert Griffin III would be the first pick on my football team. He’s got it all.”
—————————————————————————————————
FOX NFL SUNDAY insider Jay Glazer reminded viewers what sparked last season’s Jim Schwartz/Jim Harbaugh confrontation and corrected reports that the NFL’s competition committee has the authority to change the challenge rule that perhaps cost Lions head coach Jim Schwartz and his team a win on Thanksgiving. Schwartz threw a challenge flag when Houston’s Justin Forsett scored on an 81-yard touchdown after two Lions tackled him. Replays showed Forsett’s knee and elbow hit the ground near midfield and the automatic review that accompanies every scoring play likely would’ve called the touchdown back. NFL rules state that throwing a challenge flag on a scoring play negates the review and is an unsportsmanlike penalty: “If there is one guy who should never forget the rule, it’s Jim Schwartz. People don’t realize that this exact same incident happened last year and that’s what caused the little fight between Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh with the whole handshake.”
Glazer on if the rule can be changed: “It’s been falsely reported that the competition committee can change this rule. They cannot change this rule. The owners can change it and Commissioner Goodell can change it but I don’t see it happening during this season. As one league executive told me, ‘you know what is better than changing the rules – knowing the rules!’”
—————————————————————————————————
Analysts Jimmy Johnson, Howie Long, Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan debated whether 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is making the correct decision if he decides to bench quarterback Alex Smith (returning from injury) in favor of backup Colin Kaepernick:
Johnson: “Without question Kaepernick is the guy to be the starter. You can be safe and good or take a chance and maybe be great. Kaepernick won’t be as consistent but he gives you a chance to throw the ball down the field. If he’s going to be ready for the playoffs, you’ve got to play him now.”
Bradshaw: “I’m steamed if I’m Alex Smith. I’ve done nothing to hurt our football team. He has no reason to bench him, absolutely none.”
Strahan: “Personally, I went through this before with Kurt Warner and Eli Manning. It disrupts the team. When you’re a player and you see that they take a veteran that’s playing well, and put him on the bench for a younger kid it upsets the team and takes you a while to get over that as a player.”
Long: “It’s a quarterback friendly offense [in San Francisco] and they don’t ask a lot of the quarterback. For them to take the next step, the quarterback has to be able to make the bigger plays.”Later in the show, FOX NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported on Alex Smith’s future in San Francisco: “About two weeks after this league year ends, Alex Smith is owed about 8.5 million dollars in bonus money. I can’t see them paying that for a backup. This could be the end of Alex Smith in San Francisco, if he doesn’t regain his starting job.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan believes Mike Nolan is a top candidate to eventually become a head coach: “As a defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan has done a great job to make sure the Atlanta Falcons are prepared with their schemes because they don’t necessarily have the horses that other teams have. If you’re looking for a head coach, Mike Nolan should be at the top of your list.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Long talked about Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano: “Greg Schiano is tough, he’s unrelenting and he doesn’t do things because that’s the way they’ve been done for years and years. It reminds me of a guy sitting up here at the desk [Jimmy Johnson].”
And we’ll complete our the Sunday afternoon posts with NBC’s preview of tonight’s Football Night in America interviews.
The NFL on Fox Previews Week 12 of the 2012 Season
And let’s complete our previews for the NFL on Fox for this week. Fox Sports has the doubleheader as the network features San Francisco and New Orleans as the late game at 4:25 p.m.
Here’s what Fox is saying about Sunday.
FOX SPORTS NOTES, QUOTES & ANECDOTES
Bradshaw Goes One-on-One With Brees Sunday at 12:00 PM ET
FOX SPORTS GOES FOR SECOND HELPING OF WEEK 12 ACTION – On Sunday, Nov. 25 FOX Sports continues its presentation of Week 12 action with doubleheader coverage of five intense matchups. It’s crowded at the top of the NFC North and two of those teams face-off when Adrian Peterson and the Vikings are in Chicago to take on the division-leading Bears. Meanwhile the 9-1 Falcons meet the 6-4 Bucs in an NFC South tilt. Closing out the first half of FOX’s doubleheader, Pete Carroll and the Seahawks bring their stringy defense to South Florida as they look to shut down Reggie Bush, Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins. FOX Sports kicks-off the second half of doubleheader in the Big Easy as Frank Gore, Alex Smith and the 49ers visit Drew Brees and the Saints, who are winners of three-straight. The NFL on FOX closes out Week 12 in the desert as the Cardinals host Steven Jackson and the Rams.
Coverage begins at 12:00 PM ET with America’s No. 1 pregame show, FOX NFL SUNDAY. Terry Bradshaw and Curt Menefee co-host the Emmy Award-winning program and are joined by analysts Howie Long, Michael Strahan and Jimmy Johnson. NFL Insider Jay Glazer breaks the latest league news and scoops from the FOX NFL SUNDAY studio while NFL rules analyst Mike Pereira discusses the previous week’s important impactful calls and points of emphasis in officiating. Comedic prognosticator Rob Riggle provides his weekly picks segment.
This week on FOX NFL SUNDAY: Terry sits down with Saints QB Drew Brees to discuss the tumultuous Saints season that has seen them right the ship and win three-straight. Also, the network airs BEING: Jared Allen. In this edition, FOX Sports takes an off-the-field look at the Vikings eccentric defensive end.

LONG: 9-1 FALCONS ARE HARD TO TRUST – Atlanta has the best record in the NFC but FOX NFL SUNDAY analyst Howie Long isn’t convinced they are the team to beat. “To say that Atlanta is resilient is the understatement of the year,” said Long. “They haven’t necessarily been a dominant team on the field but they find a way to win. The defense bailed out the offense against the Cardinals in a five interception game for Matt Ryan but they found a way. With the schedule they have remaining, they’ll be in the hunt for not only the division, but home field advantage in the conference. At 9-1, how good are the Falcons? No one has won more games in the first five years of his career than Matt Ryan but he hasn’t been successful. I still don’t know how good they are.”
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears — Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston & on-field analyst Tony Siragusa, going to 64% of USA, 1:00PM

Fox NFL Sunday’s Quotage For Week 11 of the 2012 Season
Let’s move to the quotage from Fox NFL Sunday. And no videos for you this week
FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 11/18/12
Bradshaw: Cowboys Can’t Live in Past Glory
Strahan: Giants Took Their Bye A Week Early Against Cincinnati
Glazer Reports NFL Handed Out $283,000 in Fines This Week for Hits to the Head—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on the Saints’ turnaround and chances of making a playoff run: “After Week 4, I called them a rudderless ship on the road to nowhere. Now they have found a way back on course. New Orleans is great on offense but with this defense, they are going to come up short of the playoffs.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on what’s wrong with the slumping Giants: “They keep talking about Eli’s dead arm and that he isn’t going to throw a ball for a whole week. To me, it’s an accumulation of things, but mainly they ended up going on their bye week a week early” [with their loss against Cincinnati].
—————————————————————————————————
Co-host Terry Bradshaw on the new opportunity the Cowboys have to take the NFC East: “If the Cowboys lose to Cleveland today, their head coach is definitely going to get fired and the reason is – one playoff game in 16 years. You cannot live in past glory. You have to create it in the present and right now there’s no reason they should lose a game with their schedule.”
—————————————————————————————————
NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports on the real reason Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards was cut from the team this week: “It wasn’t because of his play. After their loss last week, there was an incident where Mike Smith asked everyone to come into the locker room for the postgame speech. Ray sat by this locker and ignored Smith three times. Owner Arthur Blank was down there, GM Thomas Dimitroff was there. The Falcons are a tightknit group. If they feel like someone is going to be a problem, doesn’t matter if you are talented or not, we’re going to get you out of there.”
Glazer also detailed some of expensive fines the NFL handed out this week for hits totaling $283,000: “There were 15 fines totaling $283,000 this week on players who either hit a quarterback or hit someone in the head. Some fines you’ve heard about, some you didn’t like – Aldon Smith $15,000, Bart Scott $15,000, Mark Barron $21,000. The league is clearly sending a message.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on the Lions’ disappointing season so far: “The Lions had a lot of expectation coming into the season but their problems started in the off-season with the arrests. It is a mindset to be successful and that includes in the off-season away from the facility. If you aren’t disciplined off the field, you won’t be disciplined on the field. I just hope they figure it out before the talent is depleted.
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Howie Long on how the 49ers are armed in the quarterback position: “Whether it’s Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers have a great formula to protect the quarterback, whether they are injured or just young and inexperienced – run the football. Kaepernick can’t do some of the things Smith can do because of his inexperience but there are things Kaepernick can do that Smith can, mainly extend drives with his legs.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on Adrian Peterson’s remarkable season after suffering a torn ACL: “It’s not about being the comeback player. It’s an MVP type season. Adrian Peterson running style has not changed coming fresh off a torn ACL and you’ve never seen that happen before.”
—————————————————————————————————
Co-host Terry Bradshaw sums up the Jets quarterback controversy: “The worse thing the Jets did was bring in Tim Tebow to make Mark Sanchez always have to look over his shoulder. No starting QB should always be looking over his shoulder.”
Over to CBS next.
NFL on Fox Previews Week 11 of the 2012 Season
Now we move to Fox Sports and its preview for Week 11. Just regional action and a total of five games offered on Sunday.
Here’s everything from Fox.
FOX SPORTS NOTES, QUOTES & ANECDOTES
Rodgers vs. Stafford Highlights NFL on FOX Week 11 Coverage
Johnston: Saints Are Most Dangerous Team in NFCSCOREBOARDS COULD EXPLODE WITH THE NFL ON FOX’S WEEK 11 SLATE – The NFL on FOX presents singleheader coverage of five exciting games on Sunday, Nov. 18. Returning to action off their bye week, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers continue their pursuit of the NFC North crown when they face Matthew Stafford and their NFC North rival Lions. Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Pam Oliver call the action from Ford Field.
Meanwhile, two NFC East rivals look to keep their playoff changes afloat as RGIII and the Redskins host the Eagles. In Atlanta, Matt Ryan and the Falcons look to get back to their winning ways as they host Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals. The Tampa Bay Bucs explosive offense, led by Josh Freeman and rookie sensation Doug Martin are in Charlotte to face Cam Newton and the Panthers. In a season full of ups and downs, the Saints look to continue clawing their way back into the NFC playoff picture as Drew Brees and his teammates visit Carson Palmer and the Oakland Raiders.
This week on FOX NFL SUNDAY: Johnson explains how the Saints have found their winning ways after starting the season on the wrong foot. Also, Buccaneer players Doug Martin, Ronde Barber, Josh Freeman and head coach Greg Schiano discuss the transformation in Tampa that has led to the Bucs winning four of their last five games.

JOHNSTON: RETURN OF VITT & LOOMIS HAS PROVEN BENEFICIAL FOR SAINTS – Earlier this week, NFL on FOX analyst Daryl Johnston joined Fox Sports Radio’s Dan Patrick show. Johnston who is coming off calling Sunday’s Falcons vs. Saints game which saw the Falcons lose their first game of the season. “I have no idea who the best team in the NFC is right now but the New Orleans Saints are the most dangerous team right now. They are the team that I wouldn’t want to play right now. They’re getting better and starting to figure out their issues on the defensive side of the ball,” said Johnston. Johnston believes the presence of now interim head coach Joe Vitt and general manager Mickey Loomis has served the team chemistry well. “The personality of Joe Vitt being in the building now for three weeks and with Mickey Loomis coming back helps. They’ve gotten back to a sense of normalcy.”

FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 11/11/12
Johnson: The Problem in Dallas is Bigger Than Coaching
Bradshaw: The Saints Are Still A Force
Glazer Reports Saints Have Written Permission from the NFL to Negotiate Payton’s Contract
Co-host Terry Bradshaw on how the Saints have turned around their season: “Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has been very soft trying to get his defensive packages in this season but what did we see against the Eagles last week? They blitzed like crazy. That’s exactly how this team was built under Gregg Williams. They showed aggressiveness. New Orleans has four games in 19 days. If they can get to 6-5 at the end of it, the Saints are a force to be dealt with.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on the real issue has plagued the Cowboys for years: “This is bigger than coaching. Underachievers – that’s what we’ve called them for years. The Cowboys have one playoff win in 16 years regardless of who was coaching. The players answer to Jerry Jones, not the head coach. The players are put up on a pedestal before they ever win a game. As a head coach, it’s a chore to keep these players focused, keep their feet on the ground and keep them hunger because there’s no fear.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on tonight’s Houston/Chicago matchup: “Houston is more of a complete team than Chicago. The Bears are only winning with their defense. If they don’t beat themselves against Chicago, Houston has a shot. Texans’ defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is as good as it gets at rushing the passer. If Houston protects the football and doesn’t give up silly touchdowns to defense and special teams, they’ll get to Cutler.”
—————————————————————————————————
NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports on the moves the Saints have made since general manager Mickey Loomis’ return to the team this week: “Mickey Loomis was reinstated and one of the first things he did was make sure he was allowed to negotiate with Sean Payton. I’m being told that the NFL has given written permission to Mickey Loomis and the Saints to get a contract done with Sean Payton.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Jimmy Johnson on what Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan did wrong this week: “Shanahan made a huge mistake. He told the media what he was thinking. As a coach you are talking to your players and to the fans. You tell your players what message they want to send, you tell the fans what they want to hear. You don’t ever say what you’re thinking as a coach.”
—————————————————————————————————
FOX NFL SUNDAY breaks down today’s pivotal Eagles/Cowboys matchup by category to see who is in a better position going forward:
Bradshaw gives the Cowboys the edge in the QB department: “Romo gives his team a better chance to win than Vick does.”
Johnson picks Andy Reid over Jason Garrett when comparing head coaches: “Reid has the experience of five NFC Championship Games and has been to the Super Bowl.”
Long gives Cowboys the defensive check: “In Philadelphia, it’s been a drama. Who’s going to be there next year, what defense are they going to run? Cowboys are set now and for the future.”
Strahan picks Dallas as the team that is most complete in overall talent: “Eagles feel like a team that’s aging including their coaching staff.”
—————————————————————————————————
Analyst Michael Strahan on whether the Lions’ recent winning streak is enough to make a playoff push: “It may be too late for Detroit. When you have Green Bay and Chicago in your division, it’s too late and too tough.”
That’s it.
