Filipinos
in India
It is a
general perception that there are no Filipinos in India,
or it would be very limited. The official figure of
a government published book showed 402 Filipinos in
India as of 2002. Right now, they would be in the range
of 1,000.
I.T. Companies. The
bulk of the Filipinos in India are connected with the
companies in the Infomation Technology industry. They
would be mangers, trainees on a limited schedule, or
connected in key and sensitive positions.
As in every call center business, they have to follow
the world schedule, which is 24 hours a day. Specifically,
they have to follow the timing of their clients whichever
countries they are.
There are Filipinos in Gurgaon, Bangalore, Pune, Hyberabad,
Mumbai and Chennai.
Musicians and Singers. The best nightspots
in India have FIlipino bands, musicians or singers.
They usually perform from Tuesdays to Sundays, peak
days being Fridays, Saturdays and Holidays.
Teachers. Though limited in specific schools,
they have to follow the timing of any school.
Others. Those
in India for special reasons would have their particular
timing and agenda to follow. An example would be businessmen
who come follow up their orders, or are on training
programs. There are two nuns also connected with Mother
Teresa mission of charities in Kolkota.
