Jon Lovett is a screenwriter and former presidential speechwriter. He most recently served as a producer of the award-winning HBO series The Newsroom. He is the co-creator and head writer of the 2012 NBC sitcom 1600 Penn.

Prior to screenwriting, Jon spent three years as a speechwriter for President Barack Obama. During his tenure at the White House, Jon drafted speeches on a complete range of public policy issues. He also helped craft the jokes and materials used by the President at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, where the President pokes fun at Washington, the press, and himself.

Before serving in the White House, Jon was chief speechwriter to then-Senator Hillary Clinton, having served as deputy chief speechwriter on her presidential campaign. Jon is a 2004 graduate of Williams College. He earned a degree in math, co-authoring a peer-reviewed paper in American Mathematical Monthly.

After college but before entering politics, he spent time doing standup at comedy clubs around New York. His amateur comedy career was vindicated years later when he beat Grover Norquist in a standup competition.

Jon currently resides in Los Angeles.
