Category:Age controversies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This category is for people for whom there are or have been disagreements and discrepancies regarding dates of birth and death for individuals. Many formerly accepted years of birth have been called into question due to the release of census and other records, especially online. Some obituaries report different dates of birth and ages.

Some living individuals vigorously dispute alternate years of birth being attributed to them, especially in those cases (the majority) wherein the individual's age increases. Articles have been reworded in some cases to respect these contentions, usually with footnotes, and often following vigorous talk page disputes or at the direction of OTRS.

When confronted with different dates of birth on different documents, the closer they are to the birth, generally the more reliable they are. A birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or a marriage record is more reliable than an obituary or tombstone.
