Faculty Recruitment
The AALS offers three main services for those interested in finding a job as a law teacher. The Association serves as a conduit, sending to law schools information on registrants via the Faculty Appointments Register, and sending to registrants advertisements for positions at schools via the Placement Bulletin. In addition, the Association sponsors a Faculty Recruitment Conference where schools can interview registrants. These faculty recruitment services are for those persons interested in becoming law school faculty, for current faculty who want more recruitment services than what's available under Visiting and Retiring Faculty Registers and for schools interested in recruiting new faculty.
The Association does not offer career counseling services. A registrant should contact the law school from which he or she graduated for such assistance.
Faculty Appointments Register (FAR)
The FAR is a collection of information about registrants interested in teaching at law schools. Deans and recruiters of AALS member, fee-paid and other participating law schools review this information in preparation for the Faculty Recruitment Conference (click here for dates). The FAR is made available to law school recruiters four times during the academic year. Anyone interested in law teaching can participate. The FAR form is not a full resume but is designed to provide sufficient information to law school recruiters to enable them to select registrants for interviews. The FAR Online enables registrants to submit their information online. To be included in a distribution, the online form and payment must be received by the AALS by the appropriate deadline date. The FAR fee includes a subscription to the Placement Bulletin and covers the cost of attending the Faculty Recruitment Conference.
AALS provides the FAR Online as a service to our members and to registrants. While we take reasonable steps to make sure the system operates properly, errors, unfortunately, sometimes occur. AALS makes no representations or warranties relating to the operation of this electronic system. In no event will AALS liability to any registrant exceed the fee paid to utilize the faculty recruitment services.

Faculty Recruitment Conference (FRC)
The FRC is organized to offer law school recruiting teams and registrants interested in faculty positions an opportunity to meet and interview within a short period of time.
Placement Bulletin
The Placement Bulletin is a publication that lists available faculty and administrative positions, as well as positions related to legal education outside law schools. It is issued four times each academic year. The Placement Bulletin will only be available online to those who take part in our Faculty Appointments Register.
