SAGE acquires Pion
SAGE has purchased Pion Limited, an independent publisher of academic journals.
The sale, which was brokered by Bertoli Mitchell LLP, was announced jointly by chairman for Pion, David Cohen and Ziyad Marar, SAGE’s global publishing director. The acquisition results in Pion’s entire publishing portfolio becoming a part of SAGE’s journal program.
Pion was founded by Adam Gelbtuch and John Ashby in 1959. Its portfolio comprises of the four journals in the ‘Environment and Planning’ series; Environment and Planning A, Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design, Environment and Planning C: Government and Policy and Environment and Planning D: Society and Space, alongside Perception and the open access i-Perception.
Speaking of the acquisition, Stephen Barr, president of SAGE International, said: “Pion’s publishing portfolio represents exactly what SAGE has always aspired to publish: major journals at the cutting edge of the development of key fields.
