Eric Bazail-Eimil is a national security reporter at POLITICO, with a focus on the Department of Homeland Security.

In this role, Eric covers DHS leadership and agencies such as Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Coast Guard and the Transportation Safety Administration. Eric also covers DHS’ role in intelligence and counterterrorism operations and contributes to POLITICO’s coverage of foreign affairs and U.S. policy towards Latin America.

Eric was previously the co-author of POLITICO’s National Security Daily newsletter and breaking news reporter on national security topics. He joined POLITICO as part of the 2023-2024 POLITICO Fellowship. His reporting has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Reason, NBC Latino, Telemundo, E&E News and other outlets.

Eric graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Service. He is also currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from Georgetown. Originally from South Florida, Eric is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He speaks Spanish, French and Portuguese.
