Welcome to Health Liberation Now!

Health Liberation Now! is a free, trans-run resource analyzing the social and political forces acting in opposition to health liberation for transgender, detransitioned, retransitioned, and gender diverse people, as well as those questioning their gender. We pair these analyses with collections of proactive resistance strategies that community organizers can use in pursuit of trans health liberation.

Announcement to our dear supporters and friends about the future of Health Liberation Now!

After four years since our start in 2021, the Health Liberation Now! project is closing to focus on rest, reflection, and reassessing future goals.

It’s been a hell of a ride and we’ve gotten a ton of work done in a short amount of time. However, a key part of maintaining a sustainable resistance is through caring for ourselves, one another, and our collective ability to fight long term. It is clear that the momentum we had in the beginning of the project is no longer a possibility without rest. Rest will give us the energy we need to approach the future with clarity and purpose.

Additionally, we are feeling the effect of mission drift away from our original goal of creating collaborative spaces where all gender diverse people can work together for a better future in transgender health care. Analyzing the anti-trans politics that affect us all is only one part of the picture – we need a more solid, collective resistance to put the analyzes to use. Balance is critical for sustainability and long-term effectiveness, and to accomplish this we need to reflect on what worked, where things went wrong, and how we can create spaces that are more balanced and effective for everyone’s needs.

In just four years we accomplished so much. None of it would have been possible without the support of our donors, readers, and international comrades we’ve networked with. Your support gave us the critical resources we need to launch and maintain HLN. There are not enough words to be able to express our gratitude and love for everyone we have connected with and who have supported us in our pursuit for collective liberation. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

What happens now?

We know that closing HLN during such a critical time in anti-trans politics seems counter-intuitive. Which is why we want to ensure that the material we have produced will still be available to those who need it. During that time we will take the time to rest and reflect on where to go from here.

So, what happens now? We sat down and discussed what steps needed to be taken to ensure availability of HLN resources for the time being while we recuperate.

  • Website access: While our operating costs were already fairly minimal, we have streamlined current costs to prioritize maintaining access to the site. All of the current resources on our site and elsewhere are paid through for the next two years. This means that you can still browse and reference our website, watch workshops we’ve been a part of, and share them freely. Come 2027, we will assess our private resources and determine if the archive access can be reasonably extended. We are also extensively archived on Wayback Machine.
  • Inquiries: During this period we will not be accepting any new inquiries through HLN emails. We encourage journalists and researchers to review our current material but will be unavailable for comment for the foreseeable future. Our Contact Us page will be updated to reflect this.
  • Financials: As our present server and other administrative costs have been covered for now, we will be disabling donations through our Ko-Fi. To honor our recurring donors for their essential support over the past four years, we’ll reach out directly to notify you and show our appreciation.
