[edit]

Location: The Bright Helm, West Street, BN1 2RE: Table 50, upstairs at the back

[edit]

Attendees

[edit]

Add your name to this list if you can make it to our sixth meeting. People of all ages and all Wikimedia projects (including people who are just curious) are welcome! There's no need to stay all day if you're busy—you can stay for as long or as little as you like.

Please also invite any Brighton or Sussex Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Spouses/partners and +1s are welcome.

  1. I will be there by 11.30am (maybe earlier!) and will aim to get that Table 78 in the corner. If we need to go to another table I will try to provide an update here. Hassocks5489 (talk) 13:26, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Probably, but not a definite. I'll not be as early as 11:30 though! Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 14:21, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Will try and join you for 1130 but depends on trains. Harry Mitchell (talk) 15:50, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Hassocks5489, Thryduulf, The wub, Acalamari, and Mike Peel: Might need to keep it child friendly from about 3pm for a few hours. How do we feel about a visit to the pavilion (£20/head but two for one with a train ticket)? Harry Mitchell (talk) 09:58, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me: I haven't been for about 20 years! Hassocks5489 (talk) 11:21, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Have never been, so okay with me! Acalamari 01:07, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me. It's been about 10 years since I visited. Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 10:25, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Potentially. Although almost certainly won't be there by 11:30! the wub "?!" 16:44, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  2. LEROY JENKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, yes, I'll be there. Acalamari 01:50, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I think I can make this one! Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 10:28, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Interested but can't make it

[edit]
  1. Can't make it as I'm away Scouting, also, that thing in one of my userboxes on enwiki Userpage. --Lcawte (talk) 20:13, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Won't make it today unfortunately. the wub "?!" 09:24, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Agenda

[edit]

Informal chitchat with no set agenda. If the weather is reasonable, we may go for a walk after lunch to take photos. You can join whenever you like and stay for as long or as little as you want. You can email Harry or Matt (Hassocks5489) if you're arriving later and want to know where we are.

If you have some ideas for discussion topics, please put them below.

  • Is there any enthusiasm for regular meetups or more structured events in Brighton? Would people like to see meetups or events elsewhere?
  • Local articles that could be written or improved. Brighton has plenty of interesting architecture and lots of potential good or featured articles.

About the meet up

[edit]
The Bright Helm pub.

A social gathering for Wikimedia enthusiasts, where

  • Some of us will drink beer, some will have soft drinks. Some might have lunch.
  • We chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy
  • We might go for a walk (weather dependent!) and look at notable local features or move to another pub

Mainly a casual social event. You can expect to meet some very keen Wikipedians, however this is also an open invitation to anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, projects re-using Wikipedia, and other collaborative wiki projects. Feel free to join us for as long or as little as you like.

Look for Wikipedia-themed hoodies or t-shirts. You can email Harry or Matt (Hassocks5489) if you're not sure.

Location and accessibility

[edit]

The Bright Helm (Q88915773) is a Wetherspoons pub on West Street, between the railway station and the seafront. The station is just under ten minutes' walk away. West Street is served by many buses heading for the station; many other buses stop within walking distance. There is a multi-storey car park next door. Wifi and food are available in the pub.

We normally sit upstairs near Table 78 (if available) where it's a bit quieter but if steps are a problem for you, just say and we will make sure we get a table downstairs. There is step-free access to the pub itself. Feel free to reach out or use the talk page if you have any questions.
