ABOUT THE VOLUNTEERS

Cameraman River Rainbow Hagg embarks on a humanitarian mission to witness firsthand the war being waged against ISIS in northern Syria in a place known as Rojava. This gripping, unscripted two-part series captures River’s intimate experiences with a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters and his band of dedicated, but often misfit, western volunteer medics balancing on the edge of life and death in the most dangerous place on earth. The Volunteers features actual operations and real characters who battle ISIS terrorists and provide medical support in a place River came to know as the ‘Devils Front Porch.’

Ricky Schroder made his Hollywood debut at eight years old as the emotionally tortured son of a washed-up boxer in the 1979 remake of the drama THE CHAMP. The performance earned him a Golden Globe(R) for "New Star of the Year" and launched the beginning of his successful career.

More recently in his career, Schroder added the title of writer, director and producer to his name, with his first film Black Cloud in 2004, an award-winning music video for Brad Paisley in 2006 and the projects Hellhounds, Starting Strong and Wild Hearths. His production company "Ricky Schroder Productions"(RSP) focuses on projects that stand the test of time. He has also become a trusted production partner for the US Army.

Today, his credits consist of over 50 movies including, Crimson Tide, Pool Hall Junkies, Black Cloud, Across the Tracks, The Lost Battalion, Blood Done Sign My Name and Lonesome Dove, the Western co-starring Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Angelica Houston and Diane Lane and garnered seven Emmys(R), a Peabody(R) and two Golden Globes(R).

It also includes 250 episodes of TV series such as Silver Spoons, NYPD Blue, Scrubs, Strong Medicine and 24.

Much like his projects through RSP, Schroder has 'stood the test of time,' reinventing himself numerous times throughout his career and garnering various awards and nominations including a Golden Globe, Director of the Year, Best Actor, SAG Award Emmy Award and many more. With his enthusiasm and work ethic, Schroder has many more roles and projects yet to explore.

River Rainbow O'Mahoney Hagg is a documentary filmmaker, director, TV producer and author. His latest documentary, The Volunteers, depicts a foreign volunteer medical unit supporting the People’s Protection Units (YPG) - a Kurdish Militia in Northern Syria fighting against ISIS. Currently, he is working on a novel based on his experience as an American combat medic in the Middle East.
