Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church is a Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Rochester, Minnesota near the Mayo Clinic. It first opened in June 1954. They Expanded the Greek Orthodox Church community in 1973 and 1989. The new building opened in October 2004. The old building was demolished on July 18, 2015. The new Fellowship hall opened in early March 2016.
History
[edit]Groundbreaking and opening
[edit]On November 30, 1953, the groundbreaking was held on 703 West Center Street in Downtown Rochester Minnesota for the Greek Orthodox Church building, that opened on Tuesday June 8, 1954. The first Divine Liturgy was held on Sunday June 13, 1954.
Expansion and remodeling
[edit]In 1973, the first Remodeling of the church was done, the old entryway was demolished and the new entrance was built. In 1978, David Giffey made icons on the walls in the sanctuary of the church. In 1989, the second remodeling is done, they added a Dome, an Elevator, and they Took out the restrooms. On Sunday September 14, 2003, the groundbreaking for New church was held in the parking lot. Construction begins on the new church on September 21, 2003 until it was open on Friday October 29, 2004. The New fellowship hall was designed in March 2015. On Sunday June 14, 2015, the groundbreaking for New Fellowship Hall was held in the new church parking lot. Construction begins to take apart the Old church building on Saturday July 18, 2015. Then the construction of the Fellowship hall began in September 2015, until it was completed in March 2016.
