Drew Stroik (April 3, 1987 – November 17, 2022), known professionally as Stroik, was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. His music blended elements of pop, indie pop, and lo-fi production. Many of his recordings were made independently at home using a basic Yamaha keyboard.[2]
Early life
[edit]Stroik was born in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up primarily in Cary, North Carolina, and later relocated to Pueblo, Colorado.[3]
Career
[edit]In 2009, Stroik sent demos to producer Andy Chase of the band Ivy. Recognizing his potential, Chase signed him to his Unfiltered Records label.[4] When it was discovered that Stroik had deleted his original song files, Chase brought him to New York City over several months to re-record material, working alongside producer Bruce Driscoll in Driscoll’s studio apartment.[5]
The resulting album, 65th and York, was completed but not released during Stroik’s lifetime.
Following his death, Stroik’s family partnered with Chase and Driscoll’s labels, Unfiltered Records and Caveman Arts Society, to release the album posthumously in 2025.[6]
Death
[edit]On November 17, 2022, Stroik was found deceased in his Pueblo, Colorado apartment at the age of 35.[7]
