Marshall - building buses well before 1992

[edit]

Marshall actually had three incarnations as a manufacturer of bus bodies over forty years - this article mentions only its third incarnation.

In its first, beginning in the early 1960s, it built simple single-deck bodies, mainly on Leyland and AEC chassis. This ended in the mid-1970s, more than likely because most operators were buying the Leyland National by this time.

It subsequently turned to building double-deck bodies for its second incarnation, these products going on Dennis, Scania and Volvo chassis. This lasted until the mid-1980s, a time when there were uncertainties in the British bus industry as a result of the government's proposals for deregulation.
