Bridges

[edit]

I need to get back into writing articles, it's more fun than zapping socks. Can I interest you in Victoria Bridge, Aberlour? Also in Scotland, also cast iron - well, some of it is - it's suspended by wires from cast iron pylons, does that count for the category? Girth Summit (blether) 00:23, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Girth Summit That's very nice, but generally I like arch bridges! At the moment, I'm just exploring gaps in coverage. I made a list of all the English and Welsh Grade I listed bridges (based on a Wikidata query) that don't have articles (User:HJ Mitchell/Sandbox#Grade I bridges without articles) and then decided to do the same for Scotland. The Scots seem to be more efficient at listing things (225 Category A vs 180 Grade I) but not so many of them have articles. At least in English; Eschenmoser has written some nice articles in German. Also FYI Lirazelf, I'm surprised at how few are covered in the Scots Wikipedia. I have some good books on bridges, but not the capacity to be churning out >100 articles! That's an interesting approach. I did something similar a few years ago, working my way through List of Category A listed buildings in Moray. If you like arches, you might like Craigmin Bridge. I didn't quite finish Moray, but I did most of the juicy ones than moved onto List of Category A listed buildings in Dumfries and Galloway. Still quite a few regions to go... The Scots seem to be more efficient at listing things (225 Category A vs 180 Grade I) but not so many of them have articles. Notwithstanding that listing is somewhat subjective, are the criteria similar, or directly comparable? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 12:09, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, the sco.wiki community is super-small; not sure we have any bridge enthusiasts there I'm afraid. I'll bear it in mind tho :) 92.40.193.174 (talk) 15:58, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. That was me. Apparently had logged me out… Lirazelf (talk) 15:59, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I caught the above user attempting to add a blacklisted link related to this report. Similar kind of behavior; make a bunch of good edits, then sneak in some spam. (In this case, after they hit the blacklist, they circumvented it by using an alt of the autodoc domain; that domain is now blocked as well). Worth running a checkuser on for related accounts? @Ohnoitsjamie definitely worth a look. A lot of spam is. I'll look into it when I'm at a proper computer. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:22, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
