Cite Unseen September 2025 updates

[edit]

Hello! Thank you for using Cite Unseen. We are excited to share details about a big update we just deployed. With grant support from Wikimedia CH, we've added several new features, including a citation filtering dashboard, settings dialog, support for localization, and the ability to easily suggest domain categorizations. Cite Unseen now also lives on Meta Wiki, as part of our effort to serve all Wikimedia projects. Our source lists are now also on Meta-Wiki, where they can be collaboratively edited by the community.

Please see our newsletter on Meta-Wiki for full details. If you have feature ideas, notice any issues with our new updates, or have any questions, please get in touch via our project talk page. Thank you!

Draft: Cavista Holdings

[edit]

Hello.

Please I noticed that Safariscribe declined my draft of Cavista Holdings, and I want to respectfully request that you give it another look. - Draft:Cavista Holdings

I substantially revised the draft to address prior reviewer concerns about notability, sourcing, and promotional language. I removed or toned down promotional claims and tied each factual statement to independent, secondary sources. Key claims are now supported by inline citations to reputable Grade 1 national media outlets (examples: Nairametrics — Ekiti MOU; Punch and TheCable — Ikogosi redevelopment; The Guardian/Weekend Post — Botswana expansion; BusinessDay/Guardian/Vanguard — legislative recognition).

The article’s main sections (History, Agriculture, Hospitality, Technology, International expansion) each cite reliable sources. Archived copies of the cited pages can be provided on request. Thank you for re-reviewing — I welcome any further guidance Chendii (talk) 12:39, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Chendii, I have some concerns that you have used AI to write the article. Aside from that , I suggest asking MCE89 who reviewed the draft. — Qwerfjkltalk 13:37, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Nnaemeka Humphrey Okonkwo (07:51, 15 September 2025)

[edit]

I am totally new, and struggling to wrap my hand well around how to do article editing excellently. Few tips from you will be great. Also if you can look at my article on Dr. Boitumelo Ramatsetse, kindly check if it is good to go. Thanks --Nnaemeka Humphrey Okonkwo (talk) 07:51, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nnaemeka Humphrey Okonkwo, I think the main thing you need to improve is the sourcing. There are a few reliable sources, but they aren't in-depth enough. That said, I suggest asking @Pythoncoder who reviewed the draft for more detailed feedback. — Qwerfjkltalk 11:32, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Here’s the page in question: Draft:Boitumelo Innocent Ramatsetse. I declined it for being AI-generated, and I stand by that. pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 12:52, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, how do you create a box? --Irishriot9 (talk) 06:23, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Irishriot9, what do you mean by a box? Do you mean a navbox? Qwerfjkltalk 14:31, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mean a box you'd find on a list article eg Irishriot9 (talk) 18:40, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Irishriot9, I assume you mean the box with the "Part of a series on Terrorism" header. The "V · T · E" at the bottom stands for view, talk, edit, respectively, so clicking on the V link should take you to the template, and the E link should show you the wikitext used to create it. It is however fairly complex. — Qwerfjkltalk 12:32, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted to know because i saw something i could add to one of those tables in a differnt article Irishriot9 (talk) 18:30, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Irishriot9, which article? — Qwerfjkltalk 16:33, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Dfdubras (23:00, 18 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I know you guys don't contribute diddly squat to the drivel you print, especially when it involves President Trump. The last President allowed millions of criminals to invade our country, and maybe one of your subscribers should inform the public that the act of crossing our border without documentation is a crime, no matter if their criminal record is clean as a whistle or not. Also, Trump cannot get comedians fired. Bad ratings and hateful speech about assassinated American heroes does. Good luck in 26 and 28. --Dfdubras (talk) 23:00, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Martan fire, Welcome! Hey I am making a draft article and have looked on several articles about this, but what is the proper way to insert and cite a picture (emphasis on cite) ? I probably have just overlooked something but would like some assistance, thanks. --CsxsC (talk) 04:39, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

CsxsC, there is {{Cite image}} which is a redirect to {{Cite AV media}} (AV meaning audio and visual). You can use a link to the image in the url field. — Qwerfjkltalk 12:34, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/massCFDS and edit conflicts

[edit]

Hi Qwerfjkl. Would you mind taking a look at this edit made by Mclay1 using User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/massCFDS? The edit removed a post I added to the same page at almost the same time. I didn't get a edit conflict message when I made my post, and it went through the same any post normally goes through. I only noticed the removal when I tried to go back at copyedit a link. FWIW, both edits are showing up in the page history as being recorded at the same time, but the one I made is listed first; so, perhaps this is just an odd case of two edits being by different users seconds apart not being recognized by the script. I was also editing a subsection of the page, whereas the Mclay1 (i.e. the script) seems to have used the edit button for the the entire page. Anyway, when I posted about this on Mclay1's user talk page, they responded that this is something to take up with the maker of the script because the automated script does not have a preview option; so, that's what I'm doing now. If this is something you're already aware of and working on, then perhaps it might be helpful to make mention of that on the script's Wikipedia page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:34, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Marchjuly, this happens because how the script works is it fetches the page text, runs a regex replacement to insert the new nomination, and then saves the edit by overwriting the page with the updated text. I can fix this issue by also passing in the timestamp of when the wikitext was fetched, so that the api will reject the edit if any edits are made afterwards. The reason I didn't do this previously is because it's quite unlikely to happen (it's happened once, to my knowledge, in the year since I wrote the script). — Qwerfjkltalk 13:05, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the script and this shouldn't happen again. — Qwerfjkltalk 13:05, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking the time to look at this and then for figuring out a stop it from happening again. What happened really did seem to be out of the ordinary, but I thought you should know anyway. FWIW, although I personally don't use scripts or the like when editing, I do realize how helpful they can be, particularly with clearly defined mundane types of edits, and appreciate those like yourself who make them. Have you ever thought of adding some language or a template like {{Tool warning}} to top of your script pages to politely remind those using them that they're ultimately responsible for any edits they make using your scripts? Just curious about this because I know sometimes those using user scripts or other tools can be quick to blame the script/tool for any errors made while using it despite the fact they're the one making the actual edit. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:11, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Marchjuly, well, common sense dictates who is responsible for the edit. I don't think a disclaimer will prevent human nature. — Qwerfjkltalk 13:32, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For some, though, things might not be so clear-cut. Anyway, thanks again for figuring out what happened here and then figuring out a way to stop it from happening again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:55, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CondorLeadFSO (14:25, 23 September 2025)

[edit]

Good morning!

I'm looking to make my first edit to a fairly inactive page, what are some things I should be aware of prior to this? --CondorLeadFSO (talk) 14:25, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

CondorLeadFSO, it depends on both the edit and the page. If the edit's just a simple typo fix, the answer is probably nothing, so long as you are fluent in English. If the page is a biography of a living person, you should be more careful when editing the article, particularly adding new information. — Qwerfjkltalk 16:31, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, how do I edit deliberate misinformation on your site? --Walnut Tree Cottage (talk) 10:31, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Walnut Tree Cottage, if there's no reference, you can just edit the article and change the information, making sure to use a reference to back up what you are saying. If there is a reference, check if the reference supports what's said in the article, and if the reference is a reliable source. If it's contentious, it may be better to discuss on the talk page before making the edit. If you give more details I can give more specific advice. — Qwerfjkltalk 13:06, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dingolover6969 (talk) 13:30, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dingolover6969, the error is because you removed |title= from
<ref>{{Cite web |title=In Defense of Global Capitalism |url=https://www.cato.org/books/capitalist-manifesto |access-date=2023-11-30 |website=www.cato.org}}</ref>

Your edit seems to have several problems though - it messes with random citation templates, removes three paragraphs without justification, adds the phrase "billionares hated by many" which is not an appropriate tone and probably violates BLP, and removes the DEFAULTSORT for no apparent reason. I've reverted the edit - feel free to redo any copyediting. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:34, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
