Hermine Overbeck-Rohte (1869-1937) was an Impressionistic painter, and the wife of artist Fritz Overbeck. As a schoolgirl she yearned to become an artist, but trained as a nurse due to family objections. However, she later studied with landscape painter Paul Koken and others, becoming a member of an artists' colony in Worpswede, near Bremen in northwestern Germany. After her husband's death in 1909, she strove to preserve his oeuvré, and continued to paint. This casually evocative Trocknende Wäsche ("Drying Laundry") dates from 1896.

Always precious

[edit]

Ten years ago, you were found precious. That's what you are, always. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:09, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Danke, Gerda. – Sca (talk) 01:49, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

October thanks

[edit]

Thank you for your appreciation! My story is about a composer and choir conductor, listen to his Lamento. - My story on 13 October was about a Bach cantata. As this place works, it's on the Main page now because of the date (but Bach wrote it for the 20th Sunday, not the Tuesday after the 21st Sunday after Trinity). I sort of like it because today is the birth date of my grandfather who loved and grew dahlias like those pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:34, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Homemade pickles
Well, my (maternal) grandfather -- who was of Swiss-German descent -- made his own dill pickles. His entire back yard was a cucumber patch. -- Sca (talk) 13:46, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Was he in the club?? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:55, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

— No, but he was in Kiwanis, Rotary, and the Big Frog Small Pond Club. -- Sca (talk) 15:00, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(ec) Interesting. My (maternal) grandparents - where I spent most summer holidays from age 5 to 10 - had a large property (former barracks): the front garden was dominated by a broad band of dahlias and other flowers, framing rows of cucumbers and dill (!), lettuce, herbs, radishes, carrots ..., behind the house fruit trees with strawberries and potatoes underneath, and to the side berries, asparagus and a fenced area for chicken and a goat. Paradise. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:59, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You said it! Martinevans123 (talk) 14:04, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Relatives claimed Grandpa's secret pickle ingredient was cigarette ashes. -- Sca (talk) 12:31, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
interesting! - Happy whatever you celebrate today, - more who died, more to come, and they made the world richer. Greetings from Madrid where I took the pic in 2016. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:50, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
War eine Witze, natürlich. -- Sca (talk) 20:35, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

November music

[edit]

For a surprise, a Bach cantata is on the Main page today, where it was last year for the 300th anniversary, and they were too lazy to find something new ;) - Look at my story, and listen to the 3 whole-tone steps and the dialogues of Fear and Hope. - An open letter open to be signed (more info on the talk), - I haven't checked if you did, please ignore then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Madeleine Riffaud - remember. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:36, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An interesting and heroic person for sure. Thanks. -- Sca (talk) 16:40, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! - I uploaded pics of a trip that was a 10-day celebration of a 16 November event, but the day was also when a dear friend died. We sang Hevenu shalom aleichem at his funeral yesterday, and it was good. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:52, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

December music

Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:50, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"O Freunde, nicht diese Töne ... sondern laßt uns angenehmere anstimmen...." – Sca (talk) 16:29, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... und freudenvollere! - I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:13, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My first Christmas story is about Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ, BWV 91, 300 years today, and its song, 500 years old. Enjoy! - Thanks for your message! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:37, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

August music

Today a great singer, pictured on my talk twice. Thank you for coming over! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:51, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Today's story - short version: ten years ago we had a DYK about a soprano who sang in concerts with me in the choir, - longer: I found today a youtube of an aria she sang with us then, recorded the same year, - if you still have time: our performances were the weekend before the Iraq war ultimatum, and we sang Dona nobis pacem (and the drummer drummed!) as if they could hear us in Washington. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:56, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Check out my talk for an Independence day, or: the pic of Oksana Lyniv was taken on 24 August. There's listening and reading in today's story, and I like both. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

On top of my talk: birthday of a great violinist and Requiem for a great friend. We sang Paradisi gloria from the Stabat Mater in the end. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:43, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sehr schön! - My story today is about a mezzo as a thinking person, DYK? (The nomination wasn't by me, which probably helped to a short review.) - Look at the video if you have a few minutes. I never saw her on stage, but (in 2022) the last Carmen production at the Bastille Opéra that she was in, - see music. --(forgot to sign then)
Happy 50th birthday, Alain Altinoglu!) - I let the video begin with a closeup of the octobass ;) Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:08, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
