Md. Rashidur Rahman (born 9 July 1976) is a Bangladeshi architect, urban planner, researcher, and social development advocate.[1] He is the founder and principal architect of DA-SEIN Architects, a Dhaka-based studio specializing in sustainable architecture, rural housing innovation, and community-centered urban development.[2] With more than two decades of experience, Rahman is recognized for integrating architecture with social innovation, environmental awareness, and cultural preservation.

Early life and education

Rashidur Rahman was born on 9 July 1976 in Bangladesh, into a culturally engaged and education-oriented family.[citation needed] His father, Md. Aminur Rahman, served as a government land officer, while his mother, Jamila Rahman, encouraged creativity and artistic pursuits among her children.[citation needed]

Rahman began his higher studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka (1994–1995), before deciding to pursue architecture. He later earned a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2008.[3]

He pursued postgraduate studies at the Bauhaus Kolleg, Dessau, Germany (2008–2009), focusing on urban planning and sustainable architecture.[4][5]

Professional career

In 2004, Rahman, along with Tanzir Choudhury Tuhin, founded Da-sein, an architectural design and research studio in Dhaka. The studio emphasized functional, cost-effective, and socially responsive architecture, particularly for rural and low-income contexts.

In 2024, Rahman established DA-SEIN Architects, reflecting his evolved design philosophy of integrating architectural integrity with ethical responsibility.[2] The firm has since gained recognition for rural housing development, environmental initiatives, and participation in design competitions at national and international levels.

Social and environmental advocacy

Platform Bangladesh Foundation

In 2025, Rahman founded the Platform Bangladesh Foundation, an international non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development and social equity.

The foundation works in four core areas:

It partners with communities affected by climate change, disasters, and inequality to promote justice, sustainability, and inclusive growth.[6]
