Since 2020, Macfarlane has anchored numerous breaking news stories including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas war, Turkey’s earthquakes, protests in Hong Kong, Venezuela as well as ongoing coverage of UK, European and US politics
Prior to this Macfarlane anchored CNN World Sport for 10 years and served as Senior Sports Correspondent. She has covered countless major sporting events for the network including the 2019 Pyeongchang Olympics, 2016 Rio Olympics, 2019 Rugby World Cup and fronted CNN’s tennis coverage. In 2019 Macfarlane sat down with Roger Federer for an exclusive interview titled ‘Roger Revealed’.
In 2022 Macfarlane was nominated for an EMMY, and won an EPPY, for her work highlighting the plight of athletes with Differences of Sex development fighting for acceptance in world athletics.
In 2020 Macfarlane made history at the British Sports Journalism Awards, becoming the first woman ever to be named its Broadcast Journalist of the Year.
In 2019 she gained international attention after she was shut down for asking a question about the National Basketball Association’s standoff with China, during an NBA press conference.
Her work has been shortlisted by the Foreign Press Association.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from City University London and started as an intern at CNN in 2012.
