Laide Bakare Responds to Backlash Over Taking Teenage Daughter to Club

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has responded to criticism following her recent comments about taking her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub.

In an interview with content creator Mr Lil Gaga, Bakare revealed she took her daughter to a club for the first time during her birthday after-party and said she allowed her to taste alcohol — remarks that quickly went viral and drew widespread backlash on social media.

Many Nigerians accused the actress of encouraging irresponsible parenting and fueling negative stereotypes about single mothers.

Reacting on Instagram, Bakare clarified that her comments were misinterpreted. Sharing a video from her daughter’s birthday after-party, she insisted she never said she introduced her to alcohol.

“I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday after party. How is that bad naw?” she wrote.

The actress stressed that her aim was to create a memorable experience for her daughter, not to encourage underage drinking, and urged critics to stop twisting her words.
