Karen Smith has been promoted to BBC creative head of format entertainment, overseeing shows such as Strictly Come Dancing.
Ms Smith replaces Richard Hopkins, who is leaving the BBC along with David Mortimer, the creative head of factual entertainment, to set up an independent production company.
As the editor of format entertainment, Ms Smith has executive produced Strictly Come Dancing and Just the Two Of Us, which launches on BBC1 this week.
The BBC is still seeking a replacement for the head of entertainment production Wayne Garvie, who has moved to BBC Worldwide as the director of content and production.
