Greenprints for the Future: Sustainability Project Fund


New for the 2025-2026 school year! Greenprints for the Future provides financial and personalized support, along with ready-to-use teaching resources, to help support educators in guiding their students toward meaningful environmental action. Whether they are addressing biodiversity loss, food waste, energy use, or other local issues, students will apply classroom learning to design and carry out real-world sustainability projects in their schools and communities.

How to Use Cafeteria Waste as a First Step Toward School Sustainability

It's estimated that over 530,000 tons of food go to waste in US school cafeterias each year--and that's not even including milk! Gerin Hennebaul is a STEM content specialist at Lovin Elementary in Georgia, where educators and students have cut cafeteria food waste by over 70% with the help of WWF’s Food Waste Warriors program. Join us for this session of The Wild Teacher’s Lounge where Gerin will share how the school's sustainability efforts have continued to grow, and offer helpful tips on how to get your students started on a path of making smart choices for the planet .

Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience

Marcene Mitchell is the Senior Vice President of Climate Change at the World Wildlife Fund, which means she leads a team of climate experts at the world’s largest conservation organization! By working across sectors and with other WWF teams, Marcene’s mission is to facilitate a successful transition to a clean energy economy while conserving nature and prioritizing communities. In this session, Marcene will explain how incorporating nature into climate strategies from their very beginnings and considering nature-based solutions as critical infrastructure can increase climate resilience. Students will also learn about what they can do to help in their own homes and communities.

But before addressing how to tackle it, it’s important to understand the basics: what climate is, how it differs from weather, and how the two are connected.
