Re: GA discussion
[edit]Thanks for your input on the talk page. I think you might have misunderstood why I pinged you. The OP recently failed an article for being too short in their opinion. You have a lot of experience working with short articles as a reviewer, which is why I asked for your input. Anyway, it's probably moot now, but thanks for showing up. - Viriditas: Thanks for thinking of me, even if I don't consider myself anything other than a fumbling reviewer. I certainly find short articles inherently problematic qua GA. There is always a feeling that something (such as the things I mentioned over there) may be missing; and the suspicion that someone may be gaming the system. - Always good to hear from you. Are you familiar with M. Scott Peck at all? I recently discovered that his Christian psychology concept of "militant ignorance" shares a lot in common with some forms of Buddhist apologetics. Ideally, I would want to write a separate, more secular article on the idea of militant ignorance, but it's pretty esoteric. Let me know if the idea rings any bells and you can point me in the right direction. Peck's writings were 50 years ahead of his time and remind me a lot of E. Graham Howe. They both seemed to pursuing the same ideas from different angles. Viriditas (talk) 23:01, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- Esoteric indeed. I heard his name, and of Road, but that's about it. Seems like good stuff, good luck with the project! Chiswick Chap (talk) 01:07, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

I think we should replace the current one with [this more recent one (fig. 2). Updates incude Vaejovidae being their own superfamily separate from Chactoidea. LittleJerry (talk) 01:14, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- LittleJerry: The deed is done: I've updated the text and the tree. I'll leave you to sort out some white-background images: in the case of Vaejovidae, that means cutting out the background from an image on Commons, while for Caraboctonidae and Hadruridae it means getting someone to take a photo. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:03, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- I also removed the bulletin list. Since its outdates and theres a trend towards removing these from main article. The different superfamilies can be given their own articles with a list of the families. LittleJerry (talk) 12:20, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- I've done the Vaejovidae image. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:56, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Advice for researching insects
[edit]Hi! I wanted to ask you for some advice in regards to researching and improving insect articles, since you've improved a lot of heavy hitters, including the Dragonfly article. I wanted to do some work on the Eight-spotted skimmer article, but am unsure of where to start on sourcing and standards for these kinds of articles. Any help would be appreciated on where to start for something like this, even if it's just pointing me to the right resources, I'd greatly appreciate it. - I've mainly done groups, which are well supported in textbooks. Individual species are documented in scientific papers (use Google Scholar), and to a limited extent in field guides. Species articles need a description, taxonomy, distribution, and if possible a little bit on their life-cycle, ecology, and any sort of folklore, though there's no point repeating standard dragonfly life-cycle etc really. A few clear photos and a map are desirable. Hope this helps! Chiswick Chap (talk) 00:13, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
