Question from W B Tichenor on Wikipedia:Questions (17:02, 5 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello! I have been using Wikipedia to construct my Study guides and PowerPoint presentations, for a church Bible Study group which I lead. The study is on the Non-Canonical books. Wikipedia has been my go to for a great deal of material. I copy and edit various articles. I am considering posting my classes (video), with the Study Guide and PowerPoint on our Church Webpage. No charge is going to be made, so it will not be for a commercial purpose. My question is, as long as I give attribution to WIKIPEDIA, for the above uses, do you consider it to fall under the "Fair Use Doctrine"? If not, how would I get permission to use the material? Thanks! --W B Tichenor (talk) 17:02, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello W B Tichenor, and thank you for your thoughtful care here! All Wikipedia content is free to re-use, so it sounds like your use case is OK. Question from Journalist RSG (22:38, 6 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello Evan How are you? This is Rosy and I would like to know how to do profiles of people. I'm a Journalist and I meet very fascinating and important people, but they don't have their profiles in this site, and I decide to start this mission to give them the surprise to be in here. Could you guide me how to start, Please? --Journalist RSG (talk) 22:38, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rosy, and welcome to Wikipedia! It’s great to have a new writer joining and contributing, though I’d note that journalists sometimes find it tricky to adapt to the Wikipedia style of writing. In particular, everything in an article should be verifiable in a published source— not based on your own independent research or interviews. (I’m told this can feel like writing with one arm tied behind your back, but it’s crucial to Wikipedia’s role as a tertiary source.) Writing an article about someone you’ve met typically means forgetting everything you know about them and doing research to summarize what others have written about them. If they’re friends rather than news subjects, you should also read Wikipedia’s policies about conflicts of interest. If you do want to try writing articles, I suggest starting with the advice at WP:BACKWARDS and WP:YFA. Let me know if you have any questions, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 05:02, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • July 9–15 - Call for candidates
  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Question from Mitotic (22:00, 11 July 2025)

[edit]

Hi mentor! There's an admin on my talk page who's inquiring about conflict of interests. I have no conflicts of interest with any of the pages I've edited, but I'm not sure what the standard protocol is for demonstrating that -- do you have any advice? Thanks! --Mitotic (talk) 22:00, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mitiotic, and welcome to Wikipedia! It looks like the admin in question is ready to assume good faith now that you’ve replied saying that you don’t have a conflict of interest, so procedurally there isn’t anything else you need to do. Over time as you edit more broadly it should also become clear that you’re just following your interests. It looks like you’ve also started branching out a little already, which is great to see— though it’s common for Wikipedians to work in small niches, so you shouldn’t feel forced to write about topics that don’t interest you. I hope you enjoy your time making Wikipedia more thorough and up to date, and feel free to reach out any time you have questions or want a second eye on things! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:10, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello! How can I edit a biography page about someone I know personally? --Hannah.keen22 (talk) 18:58, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hannah.keen22, and welcome to Wikipedia! You should start by reading our guide to editing with a "conflict of interest". The hardest part about writing on Wikipedia about someone you know is that you can only add information to the article if it has been published somewhere that meets our criteria for sources-- so there's likely to be a lot you know that has to be left out, to ensure that the encyclopedia is verifiable. If you let me know what specific changes you're hoping to make, I may be able to help make them. I'm also happy to answer any other questions you may have. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 20:28, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the July 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 - Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrator Elections | Voting phase

The voting phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started and continues until July 29 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 23–29 – Voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 – Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for approximately four days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Question from Alicebeasley (19:55, 25 July 2025)

[edit]

Hi: I corrected the entry about my husband to correct his first name and to indicate that he is no longer living and that he died in 2016. I wrote (d. 2016) but now I'm wondering if that might be mistaken for "divorced 2016). Is there a proper abbreviation for "deceased"? Thank you for your help. Also I'm trying to add a picture. It's a selfie so no issue re copyright but I can't figure the way to upload it. --Alicebeasley (talk) 19:55, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alice, and welcome to Wikipedia! My condolences on your husband. It looks like another editor has already stepped in to adjust the wording there; on Wikipedia, we typically prefer to spell things out rather than use abbreviations. As for the photo, it can be a tricky process, but there is a tutorial here. The main idea is that it has to be uploaded at our sister site Wikimedia Commons first, and then the Wikipedia article can "link" it. If you're getting stuck at a particular step, let me know and I am happy to troubleshoot. Thanks very much for adding a photo of yourself, it's hugely valuable for our articles! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 20:16, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh -- as an additional thought, if you'd be willing to add a photo you've taken of your quilting work (something you are OK with releasing the copyright to!!) that would also be hugely beneficial to the article. If you prefer to keep the rights to reproductions of the works themselves more restricted, perhaps a work in progress or a studio shot? Those images are very hard to come by for our artist biographies, but a visual can be so valuable for readers to appreciate visual art. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 20:21, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Lord Fitzhenry

On 26 July 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lord Fitzhenry, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that by spinning off Lord Fitzhenry (1794) from a four-volume work in progress, Elizabeth Gunning was paid for two novels instead of one? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lord Fitzhenry. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Lord Fitzhenry), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello Yellowcalx4, how thoughtful! Basically, you'll want to find their talk page -- it will usually be linked after their name in their signature or their contributions in a page's history, or you can go to the URL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:THEIRNAMEHERE . Once you're there, you're looking for a link that says "Add a topic" in the top-right corner. (If you're on mobile, it will be a big blue button at the bottom.) That will create a new section on their Talk page for you to write in. You can find more information at Help:Talk pages. Question from MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti on Bursa (06:56, 2 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi! It has been a while since I last asked, but is it okay if I quote(the quote system in citation) a certain part of a citation that supports the citated sentence everytime I cite? I think not much people are doing it and I think there might be a problem with it. Thanks! --MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti (talk) 06:56, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti, good to hear from you! In general, putting a quote in a citation is a kind of "above and beyond" gesture. If the source is easily available online and in English, people usually don't consider it necessary. But if you're using something long, offline, or in another language, including the quote can certainly be helpful! Sometimes it's also nice to include a quote where you're summarizing something but the fuller information is also interesting. It's best to just stick to a sentence or two, though, to steer clear of copyright infringement. Hope that helps, and happy editing. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 00:13, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, LEvalyn! There are at least five sources ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5]) for The Court of the Dead that each have Wikipedia articles of their own (The Bookseller, Cosmopolitan, Yes! Weekly, Her Campus, Comic Book Resources), which is why Draft:The Court of the Dead should be moved back to The Court of the Dead, because the book already meets the Wikipedia:Notability (books) criterion of two or more non-trivial sources that are independent of the book. Thank you in advance for your consideration. :) Justthefacts (talk) 20:46, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Justthefacts, I understand it's disappointing to have your work draftified but I think you are misunderstanding the expectations behind WP:NBOOKS. In particular, I think you haven't correctly calibrated your expectations for what "non-trivial" should look like: for a book published in the last three hundred years, a non-trivial source will pretty much always be a full-length book review. (For the old stuff, non-trivial usually means a scholarly analysis of some kind; recent books can also have scholarly analysis of course, which naturally counts toward NBOOK too, but I've never seen a recent book get scholarly analysis without also getting two full-length book reviews.) The Bookseller, Cosmopolitan, and Yes! Weekly are different flavours of WP:ROUTINE coverage of largely-promotional events in the bookselling trade, and CBR is a mere one-sentence mention of the book -- all definitely "trivial" in this context.
As for the Her Campus piece -- well, first we have to set aside the questionable reliability of student media (do remember that plenty of unreliable sources have wikipedia articles, like The Daily Mail); but in terms of its content, the piece looks more promising, but I think it's actually a really useful illustration of what the "non-trivial" requirement is for. That piece does spend a sustained amount of time speculating about the content of the forthcoming book, but as speculation it doesn't leave us with any concrete factual information that can be put in an encyclopedia. NBOOK requires two non-trivial sources because that's how we can acquire things for an article to say.
The current draft only has two sentences that are really about The Court of the Dead -- the rest is about other books. The reason WP:CRYSTALBALL says not to make articles about unpublished books is because it's almost never possible for anybody to write significant, non-trivial analysis of a thing that doesn't exist. This book will certainly meet NBOOK in a few months, because I'm sure it will be reviewed; a draft is the perfect place to work on the beginnings of its article until enough information has been published to write something substantive. I wish you luck with it, and happy editing. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 23:45, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sandor M Veres (18:46, 9 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I had an account under the username sandyveres and contributed some edits (Corrected some mathematical imprecisions in 2023), as well as regularly donated to Wikipedia. And asked for a new password. The new password "l21c1ub7dq" did not work. I tried for the first letter, which could have been |, I, or l, but none of these worked, so I created a new account under my proper name, Sandor M Veres.

Another matter that you could help me with: I would not mind if my life's work could be mentioned under my name on Wikipedia. Could you please help me with creating this page? Here is my suggested simple content. I asked ChatGPT about my contributions, and this is an abbreviated text of that:

  • Hello Sandor M Veres, and welcome back to Wikipedia. I am here to answer questions about contributing to articles, so I can't help much with username issues. One of our policies is that users must generally only have one account at a time, but making a new account and retiring the old one is perfectly fine -- so if you have an account now that is working, I don't think you need to do anything else.
As for adding an article about you, that can be tricky but may not be impossible. First, though, it's important not to use chatgpt for it -- most AI are pretty much useless at understanding how Wikipedia articles work. You should read WP:AUTOBIO first. You should then determine whether you meet any of our criteria for encyclopedia articles. I see you've written some books; one way to meet the criteria at WP:NAUTHOR would be to find 2+ published reviews per book for a handful of books. If that's not possible, you can look at the numbered criteria at WP:NACADEMIC and see if any are met.
If you feel confident that at least one of these criteria can be met, the next step is to use the WP:Article wizard to create a draft. Make sure to declare a conflict of interest. It can be very weird to write Wikipedia-style about a topic you know well, since Wikipedia's goal is to only include information that is verifiable, ie, published somewhere else for people to consult-- so you can't put in your birthday unless you find something in writing that you can use as a citation for it! It's also best to write something short and simple that cites good sources (like book reviews), rather than focus too much on impressive prose. When you're done, an independent reviewer will evaluate the draft for publication.
If you have more specific questions, I'm happy to help. I'd also strongly encourage you to resume improving articles in your area of expertise! There are a lot of important, neglected topics that can easily be improved by someone with research chops. You might find some work to contribute to at WP:WikiProject Mathematics. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 23:09, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kabil Djenasevic (09:59, 10 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi I'm Kabil Djenasevic born in Yugoslavia, and was taken by my parents as a small child to Italy first, and then to the lower East side of Manhattan. Thank you, as I will be writing a article, starting very soon. This article is from first hand knowledge and experience of which I will provide third party evidence, and fully explain, in detail as best as possible, and thank you for your help and skills, so everything comes across in a true light, of which is supported by evidence and material facts. I think you will enjoy doing this article. I truly appreciate your help and support. Thank you again --Kabil Djenasevic (talk) 09:59, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Emily Brontë

[edit]

Hi lEvalyn, and thank you for all your support so far on the Emily Brontë article. I've had another try at the Personality section - my intention had been to reduce its length, but I may have ended up making it even longer! I wonder if you might look at it at some point, please, and give me your opinion on whether I'm taking it in the right direction? It's such a challenging topic as far as neutrality is concerned, and I'm loth to remove details, although, like you, I wonder how much of the anecdotal stuff an encylcopaedia should contain. (I'm also gradually working through the citations, and replacing some of the sub-optimal ones.) ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:52, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think the new structure is definitely on the right track! I especially like the framing that starts with the context of how little we really know here. I do wonder, chronologically should the Charlotte section come before Gaskell? Otherwise I don’t see anything obvious. Oh, the last section could plausibly be called “modern re-diagnoses” but I think the existing title works too. I’ve been glad to see this article getting more and more polished and the sourcing reinforced. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:10, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for this: I'll keep chipping away at the citations until I think it's time to resubmit. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:03, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Elizabeth Gunning (writer)

[edit]

On 15 August 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Elizabeth Gunning (writer), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Elizabeth Gunning (caricature pictured) was the subject of a pamphlet war about forged love letters, and used her notoriety to market her first novel? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Elizabeth Gunning (writer). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Elizabeth Gunning (writer)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Book cover start

[edit]

I think if its alright by you then, I might begin removing some of the truly ancient manuscripts, and then I'd also want to then work through the rest of the list with some sort of plan or organization.

Any ideas on where you might like to begin or work from? I'll leave those to you.

The list is currently 3,300ish. I think we could easily get it to 2,000 or less within a relatively short time if we were both working on it. Then ideally my long-time goal has been to keep the list in the triple digits (less than 1,000) even as countless new book articles are created all the time. This would ensure that as those new book articles are written that they promptly receive a book cover image (which most new editors do not know the process on properly uploading... which is understandable since there is non-free content to be concerned with and it isn't exactly beginner friendly). Question from MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti on Bursa (07:34, 17 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi! "Cite error: The named reference "city population.de" was defined multiple times with different content."

Is there a way to fix my citation if this output appears?

Thanks! - --MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti (talk) 07:34, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Yes, what this probably means is that you need to look in the article for places where it says something like <ref name="city population.de">[reference info here]</ref>. The error means that more than one reference has name="city population.de", but there's different reference info in each one, so Wikipedia doesn't know which reference info to display. If you want the reference info to be different, you can change the ref name of one of them to be different too. Or if you want the ref info to be the same, leave your favourite version of it unchanged and replace the other version with <ref name="city population.de" />. There are some other more complicated things that could also be causing this error, so if that doesn't help, let me know which specific article is giving you the problem and I can take a closer look. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:55, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2025 September newsletter

[edit]

The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:

Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.

In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Page mover granted

[edit]

Hello, LEvalyn. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Question from Adrikshit (12:21, 7 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello, A user is reverting every single edit made by me and adding his opinion in it. Removing original sourced content. It looks like he has personal problems and now doing edit war with me. Most of his edit revolve around adding awadhi in every article. --Adrikshit (talk) 12:21, 7 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adrikshit, sorry to hear like you're having an unpleasant time editing. Looking at your talk page, I'm honestly not sure what's going on with the underlying content dispute, but it looks like your edits are coming across as disruptive. I also notice that these edits may be related to a Contentious Topic (South Asia), which means extra editing restrictions are in force. I'll put the official notice about the contentious topic on your talk page to make sure you're aware of it. But in general I think you have two main options here: you could try one of the formal processes of WP:Dispute Resolution to work things out with this other editor, or (my suggestion) you could try completely avoiding and ignoring them for a while and editing on completely different topics (by which I mean-- not related to South Asia at all). Wikipedia is a big place and it's rarely helpful to dig in to a fight and escalate. If this editor still reverts you on completely different articles, that would be WP:HOUNDING; let me know and I can help you file a report. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:35, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried edited topics like baithak gana which is related to caribbean still my edits got reverted that was sourced without any proper reason. Adrikshit (talk) 08:22, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hindustani folk music from an Indian community within the Caribbean is obviously still related to South Asia. My advice was to try working on something that's really unrelated. I like to find stub articles and expand them. For example, looking at Category:Young adult novel stubs, it would be very easy to improve Chasing Yesterday (books). You could also try reviewing a Good Article nomination -- that would definitely give you a chance to experience some mutual collaboration focused on high-quality writing.
Spending some time away from contentious topics can help you reacclimatize to the "normal" Wikipedia editing experience, and then maybe return to South Asian topics with fresh eyes and a lower "temperature". Content and conduct disputes are both easier to resolve when you can avoid getting caught up in a WP:BATTLEGROUND or WP:ADVOCACY mentality. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:55, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from VerifiableVoice (04:52, 9 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for being my mentor. I need help in improving the article, as it did not get accepted. Here's what the reviewer said: "This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article. In summary, the draft needs multiple published sources that are: in-depth (not just brief mentions about the subject or routine announcements) reliable secondary strictly independent of the subject Make sure you add references that meet all four of these criteria before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia." --VerifiableVoice (talk) 04:52, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi VerifiableVoice, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'll do what I can to help. It looks like you've been working on Draft:Predis.ai. That may be a tough one, since Wikipedia is pretty strict about what companies can have articles. First off I suggest you basically ignore the writing part of the article. What matters first is the research -- what published sources exist to base the article on? I recommend taking a look at the advice at WP:BACKWARDS. Companies have to pass the relatively strict criteria at WP:NORG. Usually you need to find at least three sources that meet all four criteria listed at WP:SIRS. Until you've found those, it's not really worth trying to write an article -- and after you've found them, an article can be accepted even if it's just a single sentence long. I hope that help with your next steps. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 07:05, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! It really helps VerifiableVoice (talk) 08:08, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I also want to clarify what qualifies as strong sources. We already have an organic Hindustan Times article along with a few other reliable sources. VerifiableVoice (talk) 11:56, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
First, I notice the "we" in your response, which raises two concerns for me -- 1, it is a very strict rule that people cannot share accounts and each username must be used by only one person; and, 2, our rules around disclosing a conflict of interest are also strict. Any kind of connection to a company, such as knowing the founders personally, is considered a "conflict of interest" on Wikipedia and must be explicitly disclosed. It's important to make sure you're following the rules in those areas; let me know if you have any questions.
As for the sources, I can try to clarify. I looked at the Hindustan Times article and it does look to me like it could count, though it has some question marks for me.
  • Significant: Yes, fair bit of material about the company.
  • Independent: Plausible; I checked WP:NEWSORGINDIA, which mentions that the Hindustan Times sometimes runs sponsored content as news, but I don't see a marker that this one is a "Brand post"
  • Reliable: Yes, as long as I'm correct that it's not a paid post
  • Secondary: Plausible; a lot of the article is based on an interview with the founder, which is "primary", but at the end they have also interviewed a customer. I don't have enough experience in this topic area to know if this is enough independent reporting for the article to qualify as sufficiently secondary, but it might be.
Checking a source in this level of detail is a lot of work, so it would be helpful if you posted on the article's talk page with a breakdown of 3 to 5 sources that you think meet all four of those criteria. You can write it as bullet points, or make a table. After you've done that, you could ask the helpers at the Teahouse if anyone has enough experience with company articles to double-check your evaluation of the sources. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:18, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for catching that. The “we” was simply a habitual phrasing I slipped into, not meant to imply more than one person or any affiliation. I want to be clear that I’m the sole user of this account and have no connection to the company. I’ll make sure to stick to “I” going forward.
Thank you for the detailed breakdown! It’s really helpful to see how you’re evaluating the Hindustan Times article against the criteria. I understand the details you’ve pointed out, especially around distinguishing primary versus secondary reporting. I’ll prepare a list of 3–5 potential sources with a breakdown against the four criteria and post it on the article’s talk page as suggested. After that, I’ll reach out to the Teahouse for a second opinion to make sure I’m on the right track.
Thanks again! VerifiableVoice (talk) 03:57, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I encourage you to create an account to disclose any relationship you have with Chambers; Wikipedia gets a LOT of spammers, so Wikipedians can be kind of hostile toward anyone who looks like they are being "sneaky" about a connection to the subject of an article. For an example you can see me declaring a connectiong here. I'd recommend you start with declaring any connection and working on the photo, and then I'm happy to help with any further improvements you want to make to the prose of the article. If you encounter any trouble or have any questions, feel free to ask. You can also usually get a faster response at WP:TEA. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:54, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Les Malheurs de l'inconstance

[edit]

On 13 September 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Les Malheurs de l'inconstance, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that one contemporary reviewer was suspicious of an unacknowledged translation of Les Malheurs de l'inconstance because "French principles and French depravity mark the whole work"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Les Malheurs de l'inconstance. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Les Malheurs de l'inconstance), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from Wild west properties (13:09, 13 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello! How do I upload my project article on Wikipedia --Wild west properties (talk) 13:09, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wild west properties, and welcome to Wikipedia! First I think it's important you read our guidelines about managing a "conflict of interest" (which in a Wikipedia context means any personal connection to the subject you're writing about). You'll need to change our username -- our rules about usernames do not allow any usernames that are the names of companies. Since you haven't made any edits with this account yet, it's probably easiest to just abandon this account and make a new one with a username that does follow our rules. (It doesn't have to be your name -- you can pick your favourite food or a random string of letters.) Once you've done that, feel free to reply in this conversation with the new account and I can explain more about how to make an article. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:36, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay!! Wild west properties (talk) 15:27, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just FYI, this reply is still from your old username. I can't help you make an article until you have the new one. If you keep editing with a username that doesn't meet our rules, the "Wild west properties" username is likely to be blocked. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:41, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, I don't know if you can help me but I want to delete my profile. I cannot find how. --Simreks (talk) 14:00, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Simreks, I'm not sure what you mean by your "profile". If you mean that you want to delete your Wikipedia account, read Help:Delete account. If you mean that there is an article about you on Wikipedia, in most cases it cannot be deleted; you can read the Wikipedia:Guide to deletion for more information. Let me know if that does not answer your question, I will do my best to help. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:25, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I clicked on your Help:delete account and this is very confusing. Why is it not easy? Simreks (talk) 21:25, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As that page explains, Wikipedia does not allow deleting accounts; it is intentionally impossible to do so. In your case, this account hardly has any edit history associated with it and does not have a user page or a talk page, so there's barely anything to delete. You can just stop logging in to Wikipedia. If you want something more final, the option is a "courtesy vanishing" of your account history. Read more about it here. The way to request it is here. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:40, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Most resources are not actually appropriate to use on Wikipedia. As a good rule of thumb, books, scholarly journals, and national newspapers are usually the best sources. [edit]

Hello LEvalyn:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in October 2025!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2025, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event with the theme What Women Do! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 different occupations or professions (or broader roles in society) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from Btbeaty681 (00:21, 22 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi - I’m so pleased to have found this mentor option. I have published a draft page and would welcome your help in getting it official approved and published. I understand that I have a conflict of interest and would be happy to have someone else publish it on my behalf if that’s appropriate. --Btbeaty681 (talk) 00:21, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Btbeaty681, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for being so attentive to our guidelines -- it looks like you've disclosed the COI appropriately and are using the right draft review process. My advice for people who are having trouble getting a draft approved is to basically ignore the writing process, and focus completely on the research process. Wikipedia's criteria for whether an article should exist are based on what secondary sources have already been published on the topic; if you can find great secondary sources, the draft can be approved even if it's just a single sentence.
So, what are "good sources" in this context? A "good source" has to meet all four criteria of being "significant" (in-depth), independent, reliable, and secondary; more detail on those criteria is at WP:SIRS and WP:GNG. So for example, this Guardian article meets all those criteria for A'ja Wilson. It looks like Casey Sacks is in a field where it's pretty rare for people to get that kind of coverage. Some other options are to meet more specific criteria; academics can also meet WP:NPROF, or meet our criteria as authors if they have 2+ books that meet the WP:NBOOK criteria.
Looking at the draft, the article in Metro News seems like a pretty good source. It's borderline on being "independent", since it's all based on an interview with her, but you could make a case for it. We'd need a few more, though. If you want to keep looking, feel free to send me the best ones and I am happy to give you my assessment of whether they "work" and when you've likely found enough.
I hope that helps, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 02:12, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Snugglebuns (02:43, 22 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi LEvalyn, I have been working on putting together a new article and would appreciate it if you could look it over and give me any tips. It's still a work in process. Draft:Joanne_Segal_Brandford --Snugglebuns (talk) 02:43, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Snugglebuns, and welcome to Wikipedia! That draft honestly looks really great to me. It's clear that Brandford's works have had a real impact/legacy and many people have discussed them. I think it's ready to be published, and can continue being improved "in mainspace".
As a stylistic matter, it looks like you may be an experienced academic writer, and there are some aspects of academic writing that conflict with Wikipedia's take on an "encyclopedic tone". Specifically, Wikipedia articles rarely state in the prose where something was said, and we only namedrop who said it if it's an opinion or the source of the information is highly relevant. I made some edits to change this, so hopefully you can see what I mean.
Thank you for writing this very valuable article, and I hope you will write many more! I'm happy to offer advice or answer questions any time. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 03:26, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I was about to "publish" the draft, but I noticed you hadn't formally "submitted" it and I decided it would be a bit rude to move it without checking in with you. Your account isn't quite old enough to "publish" it yourself (here we call it moving a page) so just let me know when you think it's ready and I will be happy to do it for you. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 03:30, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would be happy to have you publish it, I can add the sources that you marked tomorrow and I was planning on expanding the smaller sections tomorrow as well. Thank you so much for looking over it for me, I wasn't sure if I had the tone right and figured it was best to ask! Snugglebuns (talk) 03:44, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Some expansions and new sources will be wonderful! I’ll publish it in the mean time. :) ~ L 🌸 (talk) 03:46, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SelfishSalamander (12:47, 29 September 2025)

[edit]

I was creating an article and when i went to publish it, it said that my session had expired and i had to reload the page or something like that. When i did so, all my edits were gone and my article was completely blank. Is there any way to recover my work? I have the blank article draft open right now--SelfishSalamander (talk) 12:47, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’m very sorry to say that no, I don’t believe it can be recovered once you’re looking at a blank article :( This happens when the edit window is still open after the cookie expires for your login session (either after there’s been no activity in the window for a while or sometimes if you change internet connections). The best way to avoid it is to publish your current progress any time you’re going to step away from your computer (you can do this in your sandbox if the article’s not ready to be fully published yet) or writing in a file on your computer that you can save. Also, if you get that message again, you can copy the contents of the draft before refreshing and then paste them after. But sadly, those are all tips for next time… I’ve done this myself a few times and it’s so frustrating, so you have my sympathies! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 17:18, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Article improvements

[edit]

Hey LEvalyn, I was wondering if you could take a quick look at the Joanne Segal Brandford article again. I've expanded it a good bit and wanted to get some feedback before doing more. I am worried that it is reading a little bit too much like a CV and don't want that. Also, I have talked to the photographer that did a lot of the photos for Brandford and he is in the process of re-developing some old photos that he still had in his files for us. Thanks a ton! Snuggle 🖤 (talk) 21:13, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I can't take a look today but will do so shortly -- glad to hear you've been working more on the article!
It's also very exciting to hear there may be some photo options! If he has photos of Brandford herself, he can certainly choose to release their copyrights to include them in Wikipedia (or there would be a strong Non-Fair-Use Rationale to include exactly one photo of her), but if you're considering photos of her artworks, it's worth keeping in mind that some artworks are themselves copyrighted. However, if the work was created before 1989 it might not be copyrighted based on how the notice was handled; the specific requirements get pretty complicated but you'd be hoping to meet one of these conditions: PD-US-not_renewed, PD-US-no_notice, or PD-US-1978-89. Let me know if you have questions about that aspects of putting images on Wikipedia. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:39, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:LEvalyn, I've been doing some more work on the Emily Bronte page, and I wonder if maybe it's ready to be resubmitted as a Good Article? I'd love your opinion, if you have time to give it another look. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 09:56, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've had the article on my watchlist and it's been wonderful to see you working through it! I think it is probably ready to be re-nominated (and the October Women in Green event is a great time for it -- I'm sure you'll get a speedy review. The sourcing looks improved and the "Personality and character" section is much more encyclopedic. I do notice that something is wrong with the footnotes for the two portrait paintings (mis-formatted link, and to Wikipedia?) but that should be a quick fix. Good luck with the nomination! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:19, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti on Bursa Treasure (09:47, 2 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi!

Do you know a way to cite a series of references in one citation? There are six sources for a sentence and they came from the same website, but with a different page (note:this six pages are tables of information for the six objects of the article). But referencing them each in their own citation will make a line of citation that is more than three, for a kinda trivial info.

Sincerely, --MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti (talk) 09:47, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
