Speedy deletion declined: User:Franklinator18

[edit]

Hello ~delta. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Franklinator18, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: CSD G15 requires strict criteria; AI comments or hallucinated references - which this page has neither. Thank you. CoconutOctopus talk 13:48, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. The page's formatting and some of the wording looked like AI so I initially tagged it for G15. I will be more careful in tagging pages for CSD in the future. ~deltasock (talkcont) 14:57, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

FYI - on your speedy delete (G11) nomination

[edit]

You nominated User:Agboola david for speedy deletion under G11 and posted a notice on the user's talk page. I deleted the page and also....

I wanted to let you know that, since the user also posted the same promotional info on the talk page, I deleted the talk page (with your notice) and then reposted your notice (noting your posting/signature).

Thanks! — ERcheck (talk) 01:45, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. ~delta (talkcont) 01:48, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Take Care!

[edit]

Hey, we met on Discord a week ago. I was on another article when I saw an edit of yours and followed it out to your talk page. Such a cool place!

I also saw you had a stress box up at the top, along with a message about school. I can totally relate, and am feeling the same way, so make sure to take care and have some fun!

Basketball in Lithuania

[edit]

Hello, please be careful by copyediting highly-important article Basketball in Lithuania. For example, in this edit you removed critically important information about EuroBasket 2022 (in turquoise - your removed text): "where they finished the preliminary round in a fourth place out of six teams (defeated Hungary, 64–87, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 87–70, but lost to Slovenia, 92–85, France, 73–77, Germany after 2OT, 107–109) and advanced to the knockout stage where in the Round of 16 they faced the eventual champions Spain to who they lost after an OT (102–94), largely because of a naturalized American Lorenzo Brown, who scored 28 points, and finished the tournament in an all-time low 15th place." So after such your editing it became totally unclear how the Lithuania men's national team performed as the results of a preliminary (group) stage games and information about knockout stage game versus Spain were removed, so by reading such version it seemed like Lithuania finished 15th immediately after a group stage because of Lorenzo Brown (Spanish team leader), which is totally wrong.
The article was incomplete and recently (this summer) it was expanded to simply reflect more recent events of the 2000s, 2010s, 2020s and your added tag makes it look like nearly everything is wrong with this article. Citations by notable personalities are important because they are not WP:OR and they describe events much better than a bare text with numbers/results (without short citations the article would be as informative as an infobox). The initial version of this article created by an experienced user Igordebraga (see: HERE) included citations and you already removed some of the information added by him, though probably you are right about removing a citation "The press at the time described the match by writing ...", but I oppose (not sure what you see wrong in this article, so just expressing my opinion) mass-removal of citations of notable players, coaches, functionaries who describe notable events as these citations are valuable and most of them are in the article since its creation by user Igordebraga, so WP:STABLE part of the article.
I'm ready to help improving this article. Are you planning to copyedit all sections of it? -- Pofka (talk) 20:33, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Pofka: Thank you for your message. With regards to this diff, I agree I should've kept the information about EuroBasket 2022, I was a bit hasty in removing that. I've copyedited your reversion of my edit here. However, I don't think we need to list every single individudal score for each of the games (WP:NOTSTATS). Furthermore, with regards to the tags, I added them because there were genuine problems with puffery, long sentences and grammatical issues that needed to be fixed in this article. With regards to igordebraga, he doesn't have any more authority over the content than either I or you do just because he was the creator of the article. I will copyedit the rest of the article over the next several days anyway, there's still a lot to fix. ~delta (talkcont) 21:57, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@~delta: I agree about scores per WP:NOTSTATS, but I think we should keep the information about which teams the Lithuanians defeated and to who they lost (e.g. in preliminary rounds). With such information kept in the article readers can better understand how competitive the group was (e.g. if you play with the internationally number one team - the United States men's team in your group and defeat it then it is a really big achievement even in the preliminary round). Every FIBA championship game is important as there are quite few of them and per importance + media attention these games are just incomparable with, for example, NBA regular season games (every season 82 games of 30 teams). -- Pofka (talk) 15:44, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I think that words "star", "superstar" are suitable to be used in a basketball-related article because such titles are widely used to describe best players. For example, words "key stars for the NBA" are used in National Basketball Association#Surging popularity and Bulls' dynasty (1979–1998). -- Pofka (talk) 15:55, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Pofka: My apologies, I am no expert in basketball at all, just an editor who saw something that needed fixing. In that case the inclusion of "star" and "superstar" is fine as long as the players are considered to be the best according to reliable sources. With regards to the countries defeated in championships, yes we can still include those as long as the tournaments we are talking about are major. Last but not least, for any future discussions regarding the content of the article I was thinking we can discuss it on Talk:Basketball in Lithuania instead of on my talkpage. Regards, ~delta (talkcont) 16:22, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

On 24 September 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Giant Digger, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Giant Digger. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Giant Digger), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

[edit]

I saw your 10,000th edit and wanted to congratulate you on your achievement! If you compare yourself to all contributors (accounts that have made at least one edit), you're now statistically 1 out of every 1000 editors (or the top 0.1% of editors)! While I obviously don't endorse only using edit counts to judge or determine the level of skill, trust, dedication, tenure, experience, etc of other editors, I still think that it's a great accomplishment that you absolutely should be proud of. :-) Congratulations again! Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:12, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Oshwah: Thank you so much! I can't believe I've come all this way since 2023...... ~delta (talkcont) 22:15, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good accomplishment for sure. But hey, assuming that you decide to stick around and become a long-term contributor to the project (which I really hope you do), that number will only get larger and larger as years go by. I'm sure that many others have told you many times about how time in life will go by quickly when you finish school and after your childhood ends, but I hate to say it - it really is true! When I created my Wikipedia account (back in 2007, over 18 years ago now!) and first started editing, I was in High School. I was likely thinking about the assignments I had to get done, graduation, girlfriend stuff, boy oh boy... Well, fast forward to today, I definitely feel like time has gone by very fast since after I graduated college and started living life in the "real world". If you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia, I hope you stick around! Back in High School and when I created this account, I never imagined that I'd be who I am today on this project... not for a single moment. Like some have said around here: If someone like myself can do it, you can definitely do it too. Hit me up if you run into any questions or need any input or advice; you know where to find me... ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
