Got a script for MOS:DATERANGE?

[edit]

Hey friends, does anybody have a quick fix-it local javascript to adjust date ranges per MOS:DATERANGE? I'm looking at List of programs previously broadcast by NBC and I see a lot of stuff that doesn't conform. 1961–1964 should be 1961–64. Things of that nature that take into consideration all of the specifics of MOS:DATERANGE. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:48, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that's fixable by script. Consider the following sentence: "John Smith (1950–2010), the son of James Smith (1910–1960), was the first chairman (1989–1991), followed by John Jones (1991–1995)." The first two date ranges should not be abbreviated because they are YOB-YOD ranges (and the first also spans a century change), but the second two should be. Knowing the context is impossible for a script. BencherliteTalk 10:32, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyphoidbomb: Everything Bencherlite said is correct, there's no way an automatic script would work for all pages, but because we know this page doesn't have any YOB-YOD ranges we can let AWB loose on it. I've written a find and replace routine in AWB and it looks like its worked OK. The only things it missed were the oddities where the show had multiple ranges, but there's only a few of those, so doing them by hand should be easy now the bulk of the work has been done. I've checked the page over and can't see any errors, can you give it a once over and let me know if you spot anything. - X201 (talk) 11:16, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bencherlite and X201: Very good points and I appreciate the edification. Thanks for doing the bulk changes X. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:14, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hon. Lalith Athulthmudali P.C ( Sri Lanka Minister)

[edit]

Dear Wikepedia,

Late Lalith Athulathmudali was a relative of mine and a friend. He did not go to Harvard as Your Page had written. He obtained Masters Degree from Stanford Univesity USA. Please research and change your page

Lakshman De silva — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.242.251.218 (talk) 04:43, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article's current information is sourced, albeit by a source with unclear fact-checking (rootwebs). Please provide an independent reliable source for your information and post your suggested change at the article's talkpage. (The affected articles would be Lalith Athulathmudali and List of Harvard University people, if someone else wants to research this request). GermanJoe (talk) 12:45, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So far, all three references I've found say Harvard: the Asian Tribune states "He passed his Barrister- At- Law from Harvard University"; Charisma: Lalith Athulathmudali, a fiftieth year volume says "Three years later at Harvard University he got his LLM with an "A" Average. The thesis he wrote at Harvard in now among its Permanent Collection."; and War Or Peace in Sri Lanka reports a telephone conversation with a friend, who says, "How the hell can you do that, if despite your education at Royal, Oxford and Harvard you use a string of epithets ..." Clarityfiend (talk) 10:38, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a stronger reference. Worldcat lists his thesis, "The law of defamation in Ceylon : a study in the inter-action of English and Roman-Dutch law.", and the entry says Harvard.[1] Clarityfiend (talk) 10:43, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is not the place for a draft article, so I have collapsed its display. You need to read WP:Your first article, and WP:Autobiography. When you do produce a draft article (hopefully on another subject rather than on yourself) you need to understand that notability must be demonstrated by references to published reliable sources independent of the subject. A draft can then be submitted through the AFC process which allows it to be reviewed. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:17, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)The above text appears to be a copy of this document. If you would like to write an article on José Luis Encarnação you can begin at Wikipedia:Your first article as David Biddulph suggests, however please keep in mind what David Biddulph said about multiple independent reliable sources discussing Professor Encarnação in detail in order to establish notability per WP:GNG. The document you have copied can be used as a source, but it cannot be copied verbatim as it is here. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 13:22, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Afaik a copyvio must be deleted, merely hatting is not acceptable. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:01, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

how to create an article about the intern company that I represent?

[edit]

Dear Sirs,

I represent Be Happy International Dating and Marriage agency, and I want to place an article with the detailed information about us on your site, but fow now I can not see how I can do it? Today I tried to edit this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_online_dating_websites and I wanted to add the info about my site too, as it is actuality on-line dating site too, but my attempt was declined as for: Reverted good faith edits by Alisa Mas (talk): No Wikipedia article = no entry in the list. So, I understand that we have no article, this is the reason we can not be in the list?

So, we want to contribute and place an article, but I can not see how I can do it? Would you please help?

Best regards, Alisa Maskadynya — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alisa Mas (talkcontribs) 14:01, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can find information on writing articles at Wikipedia:Your first article, but you should be aware that writing about your own company is likely to fall afoul of our Conflict of Interest policy. If you would like to request that an article be written about your company then you can do so here. Please remember to include links to reliable third-party sources with your request in order to establish the notability of the topic. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 14:06, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

CRISPR PAGE

[edit]

JYTDOG had a patent section that was inaccurate and defamatory. When I posted the CORRECT AND ACCURATE and non-defamatory information today, JYTDOG took it down, maintaining the inaccurate and defamatory information. I have again corrected the CRISPR page by TOTALLY ELIMINATING the defamatory and inaccurate patent information with the correct and accurate information, namely:"The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute have been GRANTED ELEVEN US PATENTS pertaining to CRISPR: US 8,945,839; 8,932,814; 8,906,616; 8,895,308; 8,889,418; 8,889,356; 8,871,445; 8,865,406; 8,795,965; 8,771,945 and 8,697,359. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have TWO FURTHER ALLOWED US APPLICATIONS: US 14/226,274 and 14/105,017. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have A GRANTED EUROPEAN PATENT: EP 2771468. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have AN ACCEPTED EUROPEAN PATENT APPLICATION: EP 14170383.5. ALL TOLD, AS OF THE END OF FEBRUARY 2015, THE FENG ZHANG LABORATORY AND THE BROAD INSTITUTE HAVE HAD FIFTEEN ALLOWED PATENT APPLICATIONS PERTAINING TO CRISPR (11 granted US patents, 1 granted European patent, 2 further allowed US applications, and 1 allowed European patent application). The University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group has two pending patent applications: US 13/842,859 and EP 2800811. These two pending patent applications claim priority from US 61/652,086, filed 25 May 2012 (P1); US 61/716,256, filed 19 Oct 2012 (P3); and US 61/757,640, filed 28 Jan 2013 (P3). There are numerous Third Party Submissions against US 13/842,859. There are numerous Third Party Observations filed against EP 2800811. One of the Third Party Observations cites the allowance in US 14/226,274 because in that allowance of the Feng Zhang laboratory / Broad Institute patent application, the US Patent & Trademark Office stated that P1 and P2 of the University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group are NOT ENABLED as to working the CRISPR-Cas system in eukaryotic cells. The US Patent & Trademark Office issued a similar statement that P1 and P2 of the University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group are NOT ENABLED as to working the CRISPR-Cas system in eukaryotic cells in the allowance of Feng Zhang laboratory / Broad Institute patent application US 14/105,017. Another of the Third Party Observations filed against EP 2800811 cites a paper filed in US application 14/318,933, a Harvard University patent application that has as one of the named inventors George Church, because in that paper it is asserted (on behalf of Harvard University and inventors including George Church) that P1 and P2 of the University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group are NOT ENABLED as to working the CRISPR-Cas system in eukaryotic cells." IT IS ASKED THAT THE FOREGOING TEXT BE MAINTAINED ON THE CRISPR WIKI PAGE AS IT IS ACCURATE AND CORRECT AND NON-DEFAMATORY WHEREAS THE PREVIOUS INFORMATION BY JYTDOG WAS WRONG, INACCURATE AND DEFAMATORY. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.81.220.63 (talk) 18:55, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You replaced sourced material with unsourced, & you also deleted a number of sections from the latter part of the article. Your edits have therefore been reverted. If you can provide references to published reliable sources to support the material you wish to ask, please try again, or preferably discuss the matter on the article's talk page. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:18, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've provided further explanation and suggestions on your talk page. 19:21, 25 February 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by FourViolas (talkcontribs) [reply]

Referencing errors on Onsert

[edit]

Reference help requested. I don't see where the broken link is. Can you please advise? Thanks, Lars z87 (talk) 19:39, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with your edit last October was that you added <ref name=undefined /> at the top of the page. This was corrected for you in this later edit. The error message contained the words "help page" in blue, indicating that they were a wikilink, in this case to Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:47, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change the name of an article?

[edit]

Hi Wikipedia team,

I created the page for the radio show Destination DIY. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destination_DIY

But now the show has changed its name to Rendered. I think the Destination DIY article should now be Rendered_radio, but I can't figure out how to make that happen and I want to make sure I do the process correctly. Can you help me out?

Thanks! Sarah Mirk — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarahmirk (talkcontribs) 23:26, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
