Fixed the Hot Articles page

[edit]

Hi, it was announced recently that HotArticlesBot is no longer functional, resulting in the Hot Articles list not being updated since August 27. I have gone ahead and implemented the recommended replacement for it there. As the parameters for the reports are now on the page itself, changing the parameters can now be done freely by anyone and no longer need to go through protected edit requests like before on the Hot articles config.json page. Ganmatthew (talkcontribs) 09:01, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please fix the issues tagged, and especially add reliable sources. Bearian (talk) 02:28, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are similar articles for each decade then. Are we going to delete this article if we can't find a reference for every movie from 95 years ago? Howard the Duck (talk) 19:32, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's a Straw man argument. Please add at least three total references to this list. Bearian (talk) 19:45, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I added a lead, de-orphaned it, and added links. It's under construction. Bearian (talk) 20:05, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just redirect it to List of Philippine films before 1940 as this is a redundant list to that. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:25, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will check what can be merged first. Bearian (talk) 14:09, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Typhoon death toll

[edit]

I am now utterly confused as to how many people I have list as dead in Mirasol, Nando and future Opong article with stats like this [1] and how to incorporate them in related articles such as the typhoon season and 2025 in the Philippines article. Not to mention the tendency of Imperial Manila to downplay numbers in contrast to local governments. Borgenland (talk) 12:37, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not to mention the now inflated and bundled together damage bills [2]. Borgenland (talk) 12:48, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Death tallies are not adding up as the government is verifying all of these. For example, 14 were supposedly dead from all 3, but I'm counting 3 from Mirasol, as for Nando, 1 from Babuyan Island, 1 from isabela, 1 from La Union, 7 from Santa Ana, Cagayan, 1 from Benguet, for a total of 11. That's already 14 for the first two storms. For Opong, we already have 10. That's 24 already for all three, and I don't know how many of these were officially verified. Howard the Duck (talk) 19:51, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please add reliable sources to this stub. Bearian (talk) 14:07, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't we be retaining the old names of since-renamed political parties?

[edit]

Hi. I noticed a number of edits by Misutadann26 which changed historical personalities' political parties (Heherson Alvarez, for example) from Lakas-CMD or Lakas-NUCD to just Lakas. This feels a little troubling to me because the parties have shifted their alignments quite a bit over time, and that alignment is often marked off by the renaming of parties or wings of parties. May I ask if we have a policy on this? Thanks. - Chieharumachi (talk) 00:51, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"Lakas" is the short name both for the party founded in 1991 and the one founded in 2009. I would have preferred both to be referred to as "Lakas" in lists, but can understand why one Lakas points to the 1991 party, while another points to 2009. While I have pushed for the two Lakas parties to be separate (see the separation of the two UK parties named "Liberal Party"), I won't oppose merging the two parties under one article. Parties shift alignments. Republicans opposed slavery in 1865 and are now racists in 2025. The Liberal Party of Canada campaigned for NAFTA, but opposed a similar agreement in the early 20th century. Granted, both Republicans and Liberals were the same parties organizationally vs. the two Lakas parties. Module:Political party has parameters for "shortname" (e.g. "Lakas") and "abbrevs" (e.g. "NPC") and sometimes both can be identical, and IMO we should use shortnames on lists, and the actual Wikipedia article title on infoboxes and on the first time it is used on the prose, then abbrevs or shortname, with the caveat that the abbrev/shortname/article title be the one that was used at the time (this means in 1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election uses "Lakas-NUCD" instead of "Lakas-CMD"). Howard the Duck (talk) 11:23, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There's also Lakas ng Bayan which may have been called "Lakas", but I've stuck with "LnB" or the full name instead of just "Lakas". Howard the Duck (talk) 04:31, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Quirino Avenue station?

[edit]

There is no such thing as a “Quirino Avenue” in Quezon City. Quirino Avenue is in the City of Manila, while the road in Quezon City is Quirino Highway. The official designation by the Government of the Philippines, through the Public-Private Partnership Center, is simply “Quirino Station.” This is confirmed in the MRT-7 Project Briefer. I am not sure why a certain user keep on moving the page to Quirino Avenue station? -- Exec8 (talk) 02:28, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the source cited for Quirino Avenue on the article, it's because the route map onboard the MRT-7 train as shown in the video lists the station as "Quirino Avenue". Ganmatthew (talkcontribs) 07:25, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The video shows that the train is still on the test run and is likely there is a clerical error on the train unit contractor, especially if they are not familiar on the names in the location. The basis of station names should be coming from the government. Therefore the page should be Quirino station (MRT). Another source is this presentation of the DOTR to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). -- Exec8 (talk) 16:02, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Why are we using WP:RSPYT as sources? Howard the Duck (talk) 04:33, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Titan Maxx Giant Risers

[edit]

It looks like the sale of the NorthPort Batang Pier has been confirmed. The PBA posted the Philippine Cup schedule on social media, confirming the presence of a team named “Titan”.

While we wait for an official announcement, I created a new draft article under the name “Titan Maxx Giant Risers”, which could be the name based on reports.[3][4] MarcusAbacus (talk) 04:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Update: It looks the article has already been created, so the contents of the draft have been merged to the new article. MarcusAbacus (talk) 10:04, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for notifying on this! Added quick reference on binalot as the manner of food preparation.
Also reviewed the article's history and found there was a previous mention of Rommel T. Juan's Binalot fastfood(?) restaurant which is pretty notable food franchise (at least in Metro Manila) for serving their food in the namesake manner - wrapped in banana leaves.
Could work on this soon given the availability of newspaper articles on the restaurant from recent years. Markoolio97 (talk) 02:28, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Right now Kris is the dagger from other SEA countries while Kalis is our bigger kris sword. My gut says Kris is the most common term in all our languages now, and Kalis might be Tagalog-centric agenda editing from long ago. Kalis is also Filipino/Tagalog for chalice. Maybe the sword should be at Philippine kris or something. Or just merged into Kris. 27.49.14.96 (talk) 16:00, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you're arguing that Kalis should be merged to Kris, there'd be opposition due to WP:SPLITSIZE. Howard the Duck (talk) 16:10, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you want Kalis moved to Philippine kris or Kris (Philippines) or some variation, you can propose a Requested move at Talk:Kalis. Please include sources to support the more common usage if you choose to look further into this. CMD (talk) 16:39, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Moving Kalis to Kris (Philippines) defies WP:AT. Howard the Duck (talk) 16:50, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Presumably that would be sorted out at any potential RM. CMD (talk) 01:41, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose the argument is "kalis" is not English and "kris" is... Howard the Duck (talk) 11:06, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
