Tablet Reviews

It may seem like the Apple iPad currently has the tablet market cornered, but Amazon’s Fire tablets provide a cheaper alternative to Apple’s premium tablet. Oh, and Samsung also makes some tablets that are basically big versions of its Galaxy Note phones. If you’re looking for a tablet and need help sorting them all out, our reviews below should help.

The best iPad to buy

The Remarkable Paper Pro is as outrageous as it is luxurious

A front light and color display are just two of the ways this pretty note-taking device puts luxury first.

A celebrated science fiction author reviews the iPad Pro.

I love John Scalzi’s books, he’s one of my favorite authors in my favorite genre. But what’s also great about John is he’s a nerd at heart, and his recent blog post about his experiences of using an iPad Pro on the road (in place of a Pixelbook, no less!) is a joy to read.

John, do get the matte screen protector — not only will it make writing with the Pencil easier and reduce glare, it helps a ton with the finger grease problem.

Google’s first tablet in many years doesn’t try to reinvent what tablets are good for. Instead, it leans into being a good media consumption device and can be a useful smart display when you’re not holding it.

Apple iPad Pro (2022) review: bump the chip

Apple’s latest iPad Pro has one upgrade from last year: a new processor. That enables a new feature for the Apple Pencil and is technically faster than the old one. But since this year’s update is so small, here’s a wish list for things when Apple does redesign its top-of-the-line iPad.

Apple iPad (10th gen) review: stuck in the middle

Apple’s latest base-model iPad cribs a lot of features from the more expensive iPad Air. But it also is considerably more expensive than before, making it a tough sell.

Amazon Fire 7 review: a budget tablet for the basics

Sure, it’s slow, and the screen is low-res, but starting at $59.99 you can’t expect anything close to perfection. This budget device is decent, and at this price range, that’s perfectly acceptable.
