I think your page is full of interesting information, & that the Gifs are a nice touch.

I was also hoping that you could teach me to use userboxes, if you have the time & if it's alright with you Rfkatz2005 (talk) 20:25, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Florida Hospital Oceanside

[edit]

On 2 July 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Florida Hospital Oceanside, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Florida Hospital Oceanside was demolished after being damaged by Hurricane Irma? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Florida Hospital Oceanside. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Florida Hospital Oceanside), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Userboxes

[edit]

Hello, Catfurball,

I don't understand much about userboxes but I do work a lot with empty categories. Today there were a lot of categories emptied that involved Wikipedians and their interests. Looking into this led me to looking over your contributions and I saw a lot of edits that involved tagging pages as "Suppress categories". I am unfamiliar with this tag so could you explain its use to me and why you add it to some userbox pages but not all? For example, we have dozens of userboxes for football fans, why should some show a category but not all of them? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:26, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: I wish you would stop nagging me. If you want to understand more about Template:Categories ask the creator about it, not me. Catfurball (talk) 15:25, 29 May 2025 (UTC) Also other editors are using this template and you are not complaining at them only me, I know of only two editors using this template, User:Balsam Cottonwood and one other editor whos username I do not remember.[reply]

I was asking for an explanation of your editing behavior not "nagging" you. This was a very polite query, editors post messages like this all of the time, especially admins, and you completely overreacted to my request for additional information. I just had never seen the tag "suppress categories" so I don't know what you meant by it. How you saw this as some kind of attack is bewildering to me. Liz Read! Talk! 21:36, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: I only came across the suppression by pure accident, when I saw another editor using it on their personal gallery page. And I said to my self that's interesting, I think I will do this on other personal userbox gallery pages that are messing up Category:Userboxes. And then Balsam Cottonwood saw what I was doing and added it to some of the gallery page at Wikipedia:UBS. When you asked me I did not know the name of the template, so I did some looking and found Template:Suppress categories. Catfurball (talk) 15:32, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't mean to snag your revert with my rollback of the Three Angels Broadcasting Network edits. Looks like IP's have been trying to add that Kids Network info for months. – SirOlgen (talk) 21:53, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@SirOlgen: Actually this disruptive IP has been going at it since at least 2020. I asked for protection for this article, but I doubt it that an administrator will protect it thou. My request for protection was denied a couple of months ago. Catfurball (talk) 22:12, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Even if a prod is denied, the notice should remain on the talk page, no? Bearian (talk) 23:07, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearian: Since my WikiProject is defunct I would say no. Catfurball (talk) 23:55, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Bearian (talk) 23:59, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Tom Danson: Excuse me, the IP should have given proof that the team had left the league and should not have messed up the map. And by the way you should cleanup the mess that you made in the article in two places. Catfurball (talk) 21:20, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please revert your db-c1 deletion nominations for maintenance categories

[edit]

Maintenance categories are allowed to be empty. Indeed, we hope to empty them, but eventually they fill up again as the flagged issues recur. Cheers! BD2412 T 17:52, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well to bad, I am not going to. The United Kingdom used to have an unreferenced category, and I did not tag it for deletion. User:Liz tagged that category for speedy deletion and it was deleted after the seven days had come up. Catfurball (talk) 21:38, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'll state it a bit more forcefully than BD2412 did. If you ever disruptively blank a page like you did these again, I will block you from editing. —Cryptic 22:59, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"Unreferenced Canada articles"

[edit]

Categories like Category:Unreferenced Canada articles belong on talk pages, not articles — see equivalents like Category:Unreferenced Germany articles or Category:Unreferenced Michigan articles, whose contents are talk pages, not articles.

Pages are added to them by adding "unref=y" to the WikiProject banner on the talk page, not by going around adding [[Category:Unreferenced Canada articles]] to the bottom of the article as an unhidden mainspace category. But as of right now, {{WikiProject Canada}} doesn't even have code in it to facilitate tagging articles for that at all, which means that adding "unref=y" to {{WikiProject Canada}} on the talk pages wouldn't even accomplish anything.

I'm going to look into filing a request to get that functionality added to the template, but please don't add that category directly to the bottom of articles, because the bottom of articles isn't where that category belongs. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 11:57, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

By a similar token, Category:Law-related articles lacking sources is also not to be directly added to pages itself — you add that category to a page by placing {{Unreferenced law}} at the top of the page, which will automatically transclude that category, not by directly declaring that category in its own right at the bottom. The thing in this case is that if and when references do get added to the article, the maintenance template will be removed from it — whereas if you directly declare the category itself at the bottom of the page, that might not get removed, leaving the page in the category even though it isn't unreferenced anymore. So maintenance categories like that get transcluded via templates, not directly stated in the category block at the bottom of the page, because they're meant to be temporary categories rather than permanent ones. Bearcat (talk) 13:23, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearcat: I did not add categories to the law articles, I was removing them and replacing them with the template. User:BD2412 was the one who added the category to the law articles. (He also was the one who created the category). Please undo yourself on the law articles so I can add the template to the articles. I was not finished, I ran out of time yesterday. I was going to finish the articles in the category today.Catfurball (talk) 17:45, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to try to get a picture today but it is pouring down rain (probably outer bands from Hurricane Erin, not that I've been following the news closely like a normal person or anything). I took some photos last month before the new sign went up on the building (it took forever for them to put that up despite the directory signs around the perimeter going up almost immediately), but I really don't want to use those since the new sign is up now. I'll go ahead and upload the other ones for now but will plan on taking some more on Sunday if it does not rain. PCHS Pirate Alumnus (talk) 16:21, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I see that you have made ten near-identical posts on template talk pages. I do not understand what it is that you require. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:52, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrose64: Please look at Template:WikiProject Ecuador; Template:WikiProject Georgia (country); Template:WikiProject Germany; Template:WikiProject Iran; Template:WikiProject Russia and Template:WikiProject United States. An unreferenced category is attached to every one of these categories. While the categories that I have created are not attached to any template. Catfurball (talk) 14:55, 23 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Let's take this one to begin with. Is this edit what you require? It wasn't at all clear. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:44, 23 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes your edit did help, so I will be able to add the unref=yes to the talk pages of United Kingdom articles without references.@Redrose64: Catfurball (talk) 16:09, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
