- oh hey! thanks! Meepmeepyeet (talk) 05:05, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Previous accounts?
[edit]Hello! You've been making a lot of awesome edits, I was just wondering if you had any previous accounts, since you seem really familiar with a lot of Wikipedia processes for a new editor (having discovered Peer review, COI edit requests, etc. really early on). Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 05:29, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Oh lord, no. I made a Wikipedia account because I was required to do so as part of a class assignment. See Fair Trade Commission (Japan). It seemed fun, so I stuck around and started exploring. Figured I'd dive right into the thick of it in the spirit of WP:BOLD. I need to make a notice at WP:COIN because I'm so new and I have no idea how to handle a particular COI problem. I appreciate the barnstar - that's very kind of you! Meepmeepyeet (talk) 13:57, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- In that case, that's really awesome to hear! Keep on doing great work :). GoldRomean (talk) 16:53, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- I was coming here to ask you the exact same thing when i saw this heading. Wondering what drew your attention to helping with the COI backlog. It is not common for a new editor to jump right into COI editing. By the way, what brought me here was your approval to allow a COI editor to use an unreliable source. --CNMall41 (talk) 04:57, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry for the delay on this. Today has been a "sky falling, damage assessment to follow" day. Can you specify which source you're objecting to, @CNMall41? Meepmeepyeet (talk) 19:20, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sure. It is in the edit history. Can you tell me what drew your attention to helping with the COI backlog as asked above?--CNMall41 (talk) 20:12, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- There are three possible sources that you could be referring to. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at, and so I'm not going to engage further with this conversation until I get some additional clarity about why you're asking questions and what's going on. I've already answered your question in my initial response. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 20:29, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
There are three possible sources that you could be referring to
- No, there are not three possible if you check the edit history here as suggested.I've already answered your question in my initial response
- No, you did not answer the question about what drew you to answering COI requests as a new user to Wikipedia. If you do not wish to engage, that is your choice, but your editing (along with the deflecting from the question) gives the impression you may have a COI yourself or there is a WP:CIR issue. I am discussing with you so as not to drag the entire community into it, but if you prefer to address it at WP:COIN that can be done as well.--CNMall41 (talk) 21:56, 25 September 2025 (UTC)- Thank you for clarifying. WP:NOYT states, in part:
- "However, official channels of notable organizations, such as Monty Python's channel, may be acceptable as primary sources if their authenticity can be confirmed, or as a secondary source if they can be traced to a reliable publisher."
- (I realize that WP:NOYT is not official policy, but stick with me here)
- The YouTube link in question leads to the Sony Pictures Television page, which is verified, so I would take that to be authentic. Sony is the main production company for S.W.A.T, according to the sources on its Wikipedia page. Based on that, I believe that source is fine, but we can open it up for an RfC if you would like to be sure. I would assume that the production company saying that x company was involved in a production means that the company in question was involved.
- As I said in my response to GoldRomean:
- "It seemed fun, so I stuck around and started exploring. Figured I'd dive right into the thick of it in the spirit of WP:BOLD."
- I stumbled upon the COI backlog page (which is where I took the COI request from) and figured I could do some good there given how big the backlog was. As of this comment, the COI edit backlog is 181 request long. It's not easy work either, so as I familiarize myself with the inner-workings of Wikipedia, I figured I would help with some of the shorter, easier requests.
- I would really encourage you to engage in WP:FAITH and not WP:BITE - in comparison to yourself, I just started at the project and I'm still familiarizing myself with a lot of processes. If you would like to open something up at WP:COIN, that's your choice. But there are still things I'm trying to figure out and would appreciate input from experienced editors when I get stuck. (If you're so inclined, one of those situations can be found here - I have absolutely no idea how to handle this particular situation and so I'm looking for independent editors to give comment.)
- If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know. I'm happy to address concerns as needed. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 22:27, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- I see you want to insinuate that I am biting. On the contrary, I came to ask a question and you deflected since then. I am not required to discuss COI concerns with you prior to going to COIN, but I generally find it a good practice as many times it is a misunderstanding when explained without deflecting. As far as your reply to COI concerns, that was to another user who also shared the same concerns I have. As far as the YouTube source, you are creating WP:SYNTH. Based on that, a few others, and your question about Sapir Academic College above, I would suggest maybe not replying to COI requests until you are able to gain more experience with how to handle them. --CNMall41 (talk) 22:40, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- I can appreciate why it looks like WP:SYNTH - however, given that the video in question is specifically about the production and mentions the company by name and interviews them, I didn't think it was original research and that's why I approved it. I can appreciate it if you differ in opinion, and I'm neither here or there about the edit. If I somehow did not interpret Wikipedia's source guidelines correctly, I apologize - I'll re-read the page and see what I missed.
- You'll have to forgive my initial weariness - I suppose I've been on the internet too long and have seen too many people act in bad faith for one reason or another. I do not believe that I've been deflecting for this entire conversation, but rather I tackled it head on once I received clarification on what you were pointing out. Your reach out was off putting, especially suggesting there was a WP:CIR issue.
- I'm happy to clarify any of the other COI decisions I've made, if you have questions about why I did something a specific way. I understand you're not required to do so before reverting, but there are explanations behind all of the choices I made. I would simply point out that it's slightly difficult to gain experience with requests unless you're actively tackling said requests. The other editor, as you've probably seen, was sated with my response.
- Meepmeepyeet (talk) 23:08, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- I was accused of having a COI when I first started in Wikipedia. And, not in a friendly way. Looking back, I understand why and hopefully you can as well, and appreciate that I am asking questions instead of just filing a report at COIN. As far as asking you to step back until you gain some experience, I still strongly advise it. I am not going to mentor you on it, but this is an additional one to point out to add to the two I previously stated herein. --CNMall41 (talk) 23:16, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- That one was an honest to god misread, but I can understand your point and appreciate it. I'll take a step back from the COI backlog and see if I can learn policies a little better. I probably won't tackle that board again before I reach extended confirmation status. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 23:28, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- One suggestion, if I may, is to venture into article creation. Start with drafts of topics you think are notable and then submit to articles for creation for others to review and give feedback. Once you have done that a while, maybe join the AfC review team to gain experience there as well. Article creation is huge when it comes to learning. Maybe even follow and opine in deletion discussions. --CNMall41 (talk) 23:34, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Regardless of the above message, the COI backlog is not doing great, so thanks for all your efforts to improve it! GoldRomean (talk) 05:30, 2 September 2025 (UTC) |
Hey there! Just wanted to check in - are you still planning to review these edits? Talk:James L. Brooks#Proposed Edits Thanks! Brucemyboy1212 (talk) 16:29, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi - it'll be a little while before I can get to them fully - I have a draft started on it. Short answer, yes. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 17:34, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Heads up that another editor closed the requests as having been answered, which they have not been. So I've reopened them but now they're at the bottom of the queue after waiting several weeks. Thanks for your help. Brucemyboy1212 (talk) 17:43, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

- Hi - it'll probably be a while before I get to it fully because of the size of your request. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 19:02, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- I get it - it's a relatively lengthy proposal. But it's been on the COI queue since June, and I think what happened was when you left a note on August 25 that you were planning to start work on it, a second editor marked the request as resolved. I reopened the request which sent it to the very back of the queue - again. It sounds like you're pretty busy (I understand!), so maybe you could consider striking the comment you made beneath the request indicating that you're planning to work on it. That way it can move though the queue without any possible confusion. Thanks. Brucemyboy1212 (talk) 22:02, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Meepmeepyeet. Thank you for reviewing my request Talk:Raphael Amit. I am sorry it was not clear. I have updated my request for more clarity. Can you please take a look when you have time. HRShami (talk) HRShami (talk) 05:56, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- I've looked at it and cleared it. Please ping me once you've added it. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 00:36, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Meepmeepyeet. Thank you for reviewing my request. I have gone ahead made the edit you allowed. I have made another edit request on Talk:Raphael Amit. Can you please take a look when you have time? HRShami (talk) 08:36, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- Likely someone else may get to it and it may be a while. I edited your COI because it was the earliest submitted on the COI backlog. A new request places it all the way at the front again. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 20:04, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there! I noticed you made some changes to me COI edit request? It was still pending, and in the queue, because I resubmitted it with changes. Can you please resubmit it to the queue? Viljowf (talk) 08:29, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Viljowf, I closed the COI edit request because it looked like based on the discussion that an independent editor had declined the request. You're free to open a new COI edit request to the queue once you've addressed concerns. I would recommend that you repost the changes in a new post on the talk page just so that involved editors can track what is changing and why in your proposed edits. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 17:05, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there! Yes, indeed, I did make the required changes and then I made a new request. I did indicate it in the talk page. Viljowf (talk) 17:20, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- But you didn't - you edited your former comment instead of creating a new talk page post. I'm asking you to create a new talk page post so that edits can be tracked and then resubmit it to the COI queue. Meepmeepyeet (talk) 17:24, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
