[edit]Bach-Beethoven mashup?
[edit][1] Timestamped youtube link to a prog rock song that for whatever reason transitions into a long keyboard solo that lasts the rest of the track, starting at the timestamp. It begins sounding something like a Bach fugue--can anyone identify that? It then morphs into Beethoven's Pathétique sonata. Both parts are in a bouncied-up style but it's the first part that I'm wondering about. Thanks. 2601:644:8581:75B0:E58B:E956:D61D:1A11 (talk) 08:10, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not the Ultimate Authority on Bach, so don't quote me. That bit sounds Bach-ish enough to be called Bach-influenced, but somehow I doubt it's a direct quote from anything. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 21:34, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- In the article on the album in which the song ('Island') first appeared, a note states "This track borrows heavily from Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata (Piano Sonata No.8 In C Minor Op.13, 'Pathétique' : I. Grave. Allegro di molto e con brio and III. Rondo. Allegro)".
- If the song also borrows significantly from a particular work by Bach, that would likely also have been credited (though this is only inferential). {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.153.108 (talk) 21:56, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm surprised that the passage wasn't an identifiable quote but it's ok. The band did a lot of such quoting in its other works, not always credited but sometimes recognizable. 2601:644:8581:75B0:3BD:2C18:7EA2:567F (talk) 06:02, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Why is the 2025-26 team page still redirected to the general Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball page? When will it become a page of its' own? Thank you. 150.208.194.1 (talk) 14:46, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

[edit](Variety Club) BBC personality of the year
[edit]Not BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
I was reviewing the article on Jill Dando, which says she was BBC's personality of the year 1997. I'm not familiar with such an award, so I dug a little. This is widely reported in articles written some considerable time after her death, however I was able to find this BBC article written shortly after she died which says she was "personality of the year" but doesn't give a year.
I have found a few other winners, for example: Patricia Routledge in 1992, Anthea Turner in March 1996. Apparently, according to an online encyclopaedia, the cast and crew of Eastenders won in 1997, but this is probably 1987. Is there any decent documentation of this award and lists of winners and nominees?
All the best: Rich Farmbrough 19:10, 5 October 2025 (UTC).
- It is possible that it's not awarded by the Beeb. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 19:11, 5 October 2025 (UTC).
- OK, looks like it's a Variety Club award. It is BBC as opposed to independent/ITV. This V&A accession is Ronnie Barker's award from 1974. I'm emailing them for more information, but any help with lists still appreciated. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 19:22, 5 October 2025 (UTC).
- @Rich Farmbrough: See Television and Radio Industries Club. Dando's there. DuncanHill (talk) 19:35, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
